I have been using the Halcyon Proteus 10 fixed beam for about 12 months in the UK, Red sea and cave.
Its OK but does get a bit lost if there are more powerful torches in the team (wich there usualy are) Its been pretty robust and its nice and compact, but the battery run time is only 90 mins.
I would go for a higher discharge with a focusable beam and longer battery run time.

I've got a 10W Dive Rite handheld HID, it's about the size of a Scout backup but a bit fatter. Nearly 3hr burn time on Nimh rechargeables, it'll take disposable AA's in an emergency too. Brilliant little light.

I've got a 21W Salvo and 18W Halcyon that I've used for cave diving, to be honest I don't notice an awful lot of difference between the two. For diving in open water I'd think either are overkill.

It's a shame there aren't many choices in between 10W and 18W, a 15W would be perfect for most diving.

Its definitly better at signaling that the Solus 1250 but its not as powerfull generaly.

No i think the three primary torches I have now Salvo 21W Solus 1250 and Halcyon 10W are just about enough? Mind you I had to send the MB Sub back and Howards borowing my 21W and 10W so I am down to one at the momnet.
