| £40 is a small price to bet your life on, but you might get good suggestions. |

| There was a review of small torches in Dive last month which is where I started off before realising I wanted a back up torch for deep dives that could also be a primary for shallow dives. I've got as far as either a Tektie Expedition Star or a Rat jnr, I've a thread running asking for reviews on both. I would link it to this reply but I don't know how to... I started off wanting really similar things to what you have outlined but wanting it to be a primary has meant the cost has spiralled to somewhere between £50 and £70. HTH, |

| I use a OMS Vega. Beautifull torch and very good beam. I use it as a primary torch. Yep I don't want a night dive to be like diving in pure daylight. Divernet | LIGHTS OMS Phantom HID/Vega LED |

| I'd go with the Tektite expedition Star from Lumbs http://www.tek-tite.co.uk/acatalog/LED_Torches.html it's about £5 over your budget though... |

| I've used an Ikelite PCm Ikelite PCm Lite in Underwater Lights,Non-rechargeable torches from Simply Scuba for a few years - has been fine. Only niggle is the switch doesn't lock, so can be knocked on. The 6 AA cell PCa Ikelite Pca Lite in Underwater Lights,Non-rechargeable torches from Simply Scuba one does have a lock, so might be a better bet.

| 22 degree beam spread. Would be about as much use as lighting a fart in your drysuit.

Cracking torch. I used it earlier this month as a primary in the Red Sea on a Get Wrecked trip and never found it wanting. |
