I seem to have posted about Greenforce torches and Lumb Bros around the same time Rob Lumb & Lumb Bros - Superb customer service
because if you keep unscrewing the umbilical and then screwing in the charging adaptor, the batteries eventually compress and don't make a contact.

I have the older battery back, about 18 inches long. I think the newer one is black and called the F2 or something

The instructions that came with mine did say charge from the head end.

Ahh, I see. Thanks. I shall do it that way in future then. I'm happy my battery is okay though as it's fine with the head directly attached.

Mine's somehow become an old type aswell. It's an AA12 but they went and started making them in black stuff as soon as I bought mine Mine's shinier though

I have no recollection of seeing any instructions saying that but I bought mine in stages and only got the umbilical last year.

charge mine from the umbilical end (unscrew the head from the umbilical)

so it charges through the umbilical to the battery which in my case is a FII. Over 5 yrs old with no problems ever encounterd.

Its mega bright... but no where near the spot beam of the Salvo, even when focused...nice though..

Come to think of it, my instruction book said to remove the head and charge through the umbilical too...

Man rule Number 1: Remove and discard instructions without reading them.

Man Rule Number 2: Search franticly for instructions 2 weeks later when you still can't get it to work!

Ever so dodgy GF light

Had mine for 5 years now. The HID became hard to switch on. A quick chat with Mr Lumb and I cleaned the contacts. I cleaned the contacts again this last weekend, that being the once every two years service interval.

I charge mine through the umbilical.

Never had a problem with my A12 or FII.
Considering they are a pretty big player, you don't see that many on eBay which I suppose says a lot too.
