I guess some of the answer depends on what sort of diving you do... Uk? holiday? Wreck? etc in what sort of conditions.

Any idea where your diving might be heading?

Hand held? Umbilical?

Have a chat with Rob Lumb at Lumb Brothers. I'm sure he'll come up with something groovy from the Greenforce range that will suit your needs! Modular so it can be upgraded as and when your needs change.

Or another option is trying to hunt down a 2nd hand salvo perhaps?

hmmm, for that money it'd have to be a second-hand 21W Salvo or the 10W halcyon as new.

Halcyon on ebay at the moment, too drunk to find it and link it. It's not mine, it's a Proteus 6 18W

All of the above are good recomendations, I've had the 10w Sartek from new and it was a good torch for the money, I then bought a 2nd hand 21w salvo with I currently still own, and that's good too. I still think HID has it on price V performance compared to LED just now, but the gap is getting narrower every couple of months. If I was doing it again and had your budget to start with I would go for the 2nd hand Salvo, after diving next to one you will only want to up grade anyway .
