de focus Salvo ?

Ok in Chaseys test on the Solus he also posted a pic of the Salvo in "de focussed " mode :-
Solus SU-1250 LED On test

I know Marks Salvo is a couple of years old so have Salvo improved this feature or does it still leave the dead spot in the middle ?

All HID's will have that spot in the middle when in wide mode, nature of the bulb design.

Help at all ?

I had the Custom Divers CDH 18 w Hid & in fairness it was a nice torch . I felt it was lacking in power even compared to a 21w Salvo/Halcyon & decided to sell it . I want something with more punch than my old CD but don't want/need the light saber effect of the "focused" Salvo which was why I asked the question of the "defocus" on it .
At present I am between buying a Salvo 35 or 50w Hid or going to a Solus 2500 LED .
The LED wins on the fact of replacement bulb costs (or lack of) & robustness ,although in 3-4 years of rhib & hard boat dives I never broke a bulb on my CD . Also the main thing with the Solus is the light switch is on the head ,but I may have found a way to mount the Salvo on the bottom of my frame on its side so I can reach the switch .
The Salvo wins because it's cheaper & there are more of them around .
I don't think anybody can "do" anything for me unless they happen to have a Solus 2500 & a Salvo 35/50w hid to try side by side .
Maybe it's time for some magazine to take the top torch from each manufacturer & do a test

I use the salvo 35watt, hanging of the backplate upside down, the canister that is? with no problems of reaching the switch to turn on and off.

Fantastic torch compared to my last soggy dive rite torch

Due to rear mounted lungs & cylinders on the frame the only places left are in the frame or possible under it .mounting on the bp would interfere with the counter lungs to much

I have spoken to Rob & they have a new Led due out soon as do Custom divers but not in the league of the big Solus or Salvo

It might seem a bit of an obvious thing to say .... but if you want a less powerful beam, why not look at a 10watt or 21watt?
