Talking Should I lube up my Salvo?
My new torch is going in the sea tomorrow.

Do I need to put a smear of silicone aroud the O ring or will this just attract dirt and cause a disaster?

i only did this once in a year!

just make sure the o-ring is clean and free off nastys

ps before every dive check the cable for cuts and niks

Nah... Make sure there's no grit on the o-ring and make sure the battery wires aren't caught - that's about it. I've never lubed the o-rings once and feck only knows how many hundred dives I've done with Salvo's.

The recommendation from Salvo is DO NOT lube the orings.

More chance of attracting something to the oring.

Certainly never lube the test tube orings on the HID's as David said, they will cause the test tube to pop off as it gets hot and the air expands. If your in the water when this happens, you are gonna be very unhappy.

Not the end of the world though.

At least it was OK with the old stubby 21W bulbs. When I smashed a test tube on entering the water once, the bulb was fine and the ballast is potted so no problem there either. Just had to resort to my backup during the dive.

Oh, and I clean my o-ring by licking it
