UK Light Cannon HID

Has anyone replaced the batteries in their light cannon with one of these:

from 9.6 V 5000 mAh NiMH Square Battery for Dive lights - UK-C8 - DV-DA8B2MT5000

There website states DIY modification needed, which I am happy to do, but as the torch is brand new I'd rather here from someone else whose done it first.

this pack has a tamiya connector, this is ok for r-c cars,

dont know whats on the lamp end of the uk light?

if you cant buy them you will have to replace your lamp and charger connectors with tamiya style ends, easy job...

make sure your charger is compatable eg nicad or nimh

very cheap cell but from the usa i can see the postage being high..

good luck.

Hi,

I made my own pack using tagged batteries with the same capacity and voltage as that one, cost worked out about £12 and it works a treat I took off the original battery contacts and also replaced the original fuse with a small blade fuse to simplify my set-up. The extra burn time is handy, I seem to average about four one hour dives with it now

Cheers, Paul K

Did you do this to upgrade an existing rechargeable pack or was a build from scratch?

My torch is a non rechargeable, I couldn't justify the cost of the battery and charger on top of the torch...

There are just battery contacts on the lamp unit in the torch, Maplin do the tamiya ends (I have them on my motorbike for the charger).

The charger and two battery packs come to $169 inc $60 postage, so around £85, single UK battery pack (3500mAh) and charger is around £70 IIRC

Postage cost is high, but I reckon I can share that with another diver with the same torch, so the price will drop to £70 but I'll have two battery packs.

Made mine from scratch as I was getting upset at the rate it ate normal batteries. Charger is £5.99 for a 12hr charge unit. They sell quicker chargers but 12hrs suits me fine

Where did you source the parts from and do you have a wiring diagram?
