A rather miffed Salvo owner

I bought my 21w Salvo sometime ago now and initially had some issues with the burn time which were eventually resolved after a new batter pack and returning the whole unit to the US. Phill was very good at sorting that out although I did have to ring up regularly for a status update.

Recently the charger blew up. So I returned it and received a call from someone at niknaks (not Phill or Amanda) and was told a new charger would be £43.60. I need it urgently for my Scapa trip next week so I said go ahead but if I'd had the time then I'd have stripped the unit down and repaired it myself (yes I'm qualified to mess around with electronics ).

Anyway, to cut a long story short the replacement unit arrived recorded delivery yesterday and I collected it today. Having taken it out of the box I find that the power lead is a US version

Now I can go online and buy the exact same power supply minus the Anderson connectors for less than £15 from Battery City. So I'm somewhat miffed that I pay nearly three times that amount for someone to stick an anderson plug on it and then supply it with the wrong mains lead!

Fortunately I have enough spare leads knocking around to be able to sort this out myself but it shouldn't happen in the first place!

I know that and to be honest as I said I've loads of them knocking around from old PCs but at £43 I shouldn't have to resort to that!

Doesn't the US fitting go in a shaver socket? This is what I have been using on the Halcyon for years.

Either that or cut off the end and rig up a 3 pin plug.

Obviously neither to do with Salvo and the cost of the charger, but might save you a few days postage to get you on the road.

Digs.

should have bought a Greenforce ....They light up, recharge and don't blow up either. You'll also have some spare change to buy more shiny kit with as well. Even if you buy a spare HID bulb, you'll still have a few quid left over.....

The amount of threads on here that indicate the problems with Salvo, i'm gobsmacked that people still buy them. I cannot see a single reason why they are needed for the standard UK diving scene. They are simply the latest "must have fashion accessory". If Salvo made jewellry, you'd find it stocked at Elizabeth Duke.

Yeah....I've seen a few GFs.....all the penetration of a pissed gnat not that good for signalling. The beam spread is just too wide.

you miss the point a bit

At least you get a beam, and who on earth do people constantly need to signal? Little green men on mars? or do you all get scared, in which case, all hold hands. The one trembling the most will be obvious and you can help him/her! I'd love to see what the Salvo sales figures would be like in the UK if YD wasn't here. I'd wager, that you'd see very few of them at all over here

There's 101 other makes out there that do the same job . . . .

This thread and others like have just confirmed that there is a market for my torch design.....

You can have this for £2.50 including p&p:

or for the truly fashion conscience, you can have this one, but it's £400 dearer

i'm taking orders now and promise that no parts are sourced from the US

You really would think that they'd order and check that it was uk compatible or send an adaptor if they knew it was wrong spec. i must say phill usually gives great service with this sort of thing. We all aspire to perfection but miss the goalpost occasionally i suppose.

For an extra few bob you could offer a QR connection to trickle in some gas, and increase the burn time. Richer nitrox mixes would also up the light output, i reckon with 100% O2 tapped in you'd have a fair old beam, and it would keep you warm on deco...
