Question Helios 4.5 or Proteus 6?

Hi all,

I'm looking at getting a new torch. Definatly want a umbilical HID and have got it down to a choice between the Halcyon Helios 4.5 10W & Proteus 6 10W. I've weighed up the pro's & cons about costs & maintenance, so I know the Helios is more expensive to buy & replace parts, but am willing to accept this. The bit I'm not sure on is the size. I've heard the Proteus 6 is a bit of a beast (large) whilst the Helios 4.5 is small. I've got quite a small build, so having a large canister attatched to my side may be a bit of a hindrance.

Does anyone have any views/ experience of these torches?

Cheers,

Jen

Jen, I think the miniQ range would be suitable for you. DW sell them, have a chat with Brett!

(for the benefit of others this is a long stand joke between Jen and I)

I should be doing my school work, but I need a break from shovelling nearly 300 pages of shite around.

Anyway, never mind me not writing my thesis. Most people on this board contribute to your wages -get on with it!!

Red face

The Proteus 6 is a beast.. But I just love mine.
Its nice and long so as stow your long hose under it, sits nicely against the wing, does not get in the way at all. A bonus is I can loose a little lead.

Look its not that big..

Hi guys,

Just to let you know I went for the Helios 4.5 in the end. It's just what I was looking for! Now that I've seen the Pro 6 I feel it would have been far to big for me. I wanted something that I could stick on my waist belt, tuck it round the back & forget it's there. This is just what I get with the Helios. Only problem I've had is that about 3 months after getting it, the reflector & bulb protector broke. Sent it back & they said there was a "nick" on the reflector which was rubbing against the bulb protector each time I altered the focus. This is what broke it. They fixed it for me, but had a bit of trouble about who was going to pay for it. i said it should be free as was their fault, but they say me as bulbs aren't covered under warranty. Still not sure if I've got to pay, but I've had the torch back about a month now & they've not got in touch asking for money, so guess that means no. If they do get in touch I've researched all the trading standards stuff, and it is them who should meet the bill as the supplier.

Jen
