I have been diving with the Oceanic OP for over a year now bought at london dive show for £175 and have found it a very good torch which outshines my buddy's greenforce LED head. Its battered and bashed and continues to light my path for me. My only gripe is its size, slightly to long in length to fit into dry suit pocket and therefore I have to have t attached to a D ring on my harness on an extendable landyard. Hence my yearning now for the aquasun which I saw for the first time a few weeks ago.

I been using a non-umbilical metsub for 6 years now, I forget the modal type. Its leaked battery acid, I find the charging a hassle and it can be to bright. I ended up changing to a lower watt bulb. A self contained, long-lasting LED torch that can use standard chargeable batteries should fit the bill. I'm getting too lazy!

I just now need a review for the Oceanic OP 3x3 LED? or if anyone owns one please let me know how you have found it?

    Re difference

The new standard for torch brightness is now internationally measured in heron's or heron's beaks mr chase! I believe it is how much the beam can light up an object from a given distance ie how many herons beaks or whole herons. As a pioneer in torch development I thought you would be up to date on this mark!

OK I have a short list of 3. The greenforce C2E10 135, the Coltrisub EVO 246 and the Oceanic OP 3x3 LED.

Yazzy footy: Thanks for the info. Can you tell me if your Oceanic has given out enough light for most of your dives?

Eey ore 9: As you seem to be very knowledgeable (Herons!), and thanks for posting those reviews. A big ask, could you tell me according to their specs, which of the 3 torches above should give out the most light and spread?

And do the numbers 135 and 246 actually refer to anything?

    Cheers

    Will

The Oceanic gives me sufficient light while I am diving in order that I do not get scared of the dark but it isnt so bright that it scares all marine life out of the way. Its good enough for rummaging around wrecks with.

I phoned the chap at AquaSun and bought the D6 today, seemingly he is not buying anymore as they are for a specialist market and therefore don't move off the shelves fast enough. He will now be focusing on the smaller back up torch, because of this he let me have a D6 for £170, if it throws out half of the light it states this will still be a bargain.

Will be testing it out on the Kyarra at the weekend so if it performs I will post an update, I bet he'll place an order if a YD bulk buy situation arrives, seemed like a nice bloke.

I have tried to find the coltrisub you mentioned but not found specs yet but have a look at these other links it gives the info you require on a variety of torches.
DIVER Underwater Lights Survey - Lanterns
DIVER Underwater Lights Survey - Mini Torches

DIVER Underwater Lights Survey - Technical Lights
Ultimately if you can get hold of either and dive with them (test) you will find which suits your diving requirements, failing that ask at the shop to test in a dark room. I would advise against ordering online unless you have seen the torch in action and are happy with what you see. Dont rush into a purchase until you are happy and have explored other peoples experiences with your chosen item! theres a lot to think about, ie how bright, how far can it penetrate the darkness, where you can stow it,how it feels in your hand, burntime, running cost, etc.

    Thanks guys.

I will go to Dive life and Bradford divers (i thinks that's the name) and test my chosen 3 in a dark room or loo! After all the hassle in trying to decipher what all the specs are all about I think this is going to be the best way to choose.

    Cheers

I have the small back up D3 and can say its a bright little torch.

Might have to order a D6 if he getting rid and not getting a fresh stock in. I was going to wait a couple o months.
