I've only seen the CD, Halcyon and Dive Rite ones.

A mate of mine has got the CD one, the light produced is really nice, he complains about the connection in the battery pack (apparently it's a bit hit n miss and he has to disconnect and re-connect before it will turn on each time).

The Dive Rite jobbie, is a luverly looking bit of kit, though while i was being shown one the clamp holding the top on fell apart.

The Halcyon one is very similar IMO to the Dive Rite ones but if you're looking at the £300 mark you'll only be getting a lead acid battery (which for some reason seems a bit odd to me, old technology with new... weird!)

Out of the three above i think i'd go for the Halcyon, but i think the Sartek is similar to the expensive Halcyon but a lot cheaper, i'd like to see one.

Ian

...oh, and i really like the derlin canister of the Halcyon and Dive Rite

It's here. (the CBPS4.5H10MRFS version )

http://www.sarind.com/acatalog/compl...g_systems.html

I also got one from Andy as well. I've used it a couple of times and I'm well impressed. Nice touch that it also comes with the light head holder. Although I did have a kent tooling 'goodman' handle. Managed to fit the holder to the handle so the goodman handle can now be clipped on or off the light head. Now I can cover the light head with a beer bottle cooler to give it a bit of protection between dives (after the handle's been removed). I leave the canister on the belt and clip off the head to a chest D ring.

The cable at the top of the canister is well protected by a brass connection. From what I've heard this seems to be a weak point with some other canisters. The battery is accessed from the base of the unit. The unit is opened with a screw base. This has two 'o' rings which seal the unit and a little bar (removable) which helps with tightening of the base. The trickle charger uses any output as far as I know. The light cord is a decent length. Not too long or too short. I found that if the head is held in the left hand then there isn't lots of spare cord floating around (apparently the case with a few other makes )

It's not the prettiest HID I've seen but seems pretty rugged and well put together. The focusable head is a real plus.

A little bit more than £300 but well worth it.

Ian.

WOW, that was quick, everyone must be on their day off too?

1. Padowan - Good idea but was hoping to push the cart out, if I did not have a torch at all I would go this way.

2. ian Price -

3. Digger - Your questions will be answered - hopefully in this thread?

4. FOX - You might be onto something there, if we can all decide on one torch? I read your last thread from the archives with the last years worth, still confused, but better educated.

5. Timing - Attached, just for you

I think I read MArk Chase picked up a proteus 3 non-focusable for 300 quid at the dive show (actually I think he picked up two but thats just being silly )

Might be worth a wait if you decide on the halcyon jobby.

Arrow SARTEK! (See Ian Murray's URL, above, for the model I use)

Amen to Pricey and Ian Murry - I've just come back from 3 day's diving in the Sound of Mull and off one charge, the torch lasted me 4 dives (over fours hours easy and was still going strong) before I put it on charge for day three - just to be on the safe side and not have it go off on me whilst at 30+ metres in the holds of the 'Hispania'. Viz was a bit mixed on a couple of the dives but the torch lit up the gaff like turning on a light. Focussable beam makes a hell of difference in mixed condition. Gets my vote!

You betcha m8...

But I am too lazy to carry two so I gave the other one to Andyp... and made him pay for it as well how cool is that.

Actually Andyp is the man to thank for the price, I was so busy rolling about on the floor laughing when they offered Andrew and I SPOOLS????? as a discount that I couldn’t talk so Andrew did the dirty deal and we got two for £600.00.

We both walked away with grins like Cheshire cats but hopefully I have plugged just how fantastic the torch is to get them a few more sales. Its is a very very nice bit of kit.

As Digger said I was disappointed to find some light rust around the lid clamps especially as I wash it religiously after each dive, I think the days on the livaboard in the Red Sea might have done the damage. It wasn't washed till the end of each three-dive day.

Well, if you guys want to get together and do the deed at the dive show, I'll buy at £300 by then. I've just found a drysuit that doesn't leak, so I've not got to get a new one of them!!!

If anyone wants to do a deal, PM me and I'll get a list together. It's about time we did a mass YD deal and did the dive industry over a bit. Halcyon torches only, as we'll be getting them all from the same place, and I need to know what and how much we're expecting to pay. I think HelenM can vouch for my Dive Show abilities to get good kit cheap. SHame we never actually got round to handing over credit cards!!!
