Imported post BUT..........He wouldn't fall over !!!!!!!!!!

Imported post But if he did fall he'd do it in such a manner as to not disturb the ground composition.

Imported post If he falls over, most probably would not be an entanglement hazard, would fall faster than others due to stream lining of kit and would have a buddy (not a stroke to help him up). Also as he uses Halcyon kit, no damage would be present . Also in a press conference he would state that he fall over not his fault but because a stroke has left his OMS/Custom Divers wing lying around and his foot got entangled in it's bungie and one of the buckles broke and injured him! :peace: NB: just a joke no offence ment to DIR divers

Imported post If a man speaks in the forest and there is no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?

Imported post He'd bloody well fall over if someone whacked him on the back of the bonce with a Morris Minor starting handle!.......For God's sake. You're looking at this the wrong way,why don't you just say it like it is:- "I've adopted various practices and configs into my diving from various areas after working through and finding a system that suits me and my diving.Funnily enough DIR have done that too,but they do it slightly different to me..where's the problem?" for eg. Hobby.

Imported post Did he fall? Or was he pushed...!!! Doing something the right way doesn't mean you're doing it the best way - there are many "right" ways. Which means DIR can be improved upon... (DIB anyone?) Flame on...

Imported post Dudes, Thought I'd let this one run for a while before putting my seventeen and half pence in. There are some very good and lucid arguemnts here: Hobby & Dom and others have put forth many a good pro and con for the initial offering. Like most here, I can see some of the merits to the so called 'Do It Right' diving practise (indeed, I dive with the long hose, the bungeed regs etc.) - what pisses me off is the very assumption in the name that any one who doesn't worship at the altar of GI3 is not worthy to wear his Speedoes! And if diving his way gets me a trout who plasters my picture all over the web in pics I might have hoped would have been burnt years ago, then I'm happy to be classed a 'stroke' of the 1st water! Guilty as charged, your honour. On balance, like most things in life, there are those that can put forward a reasoned and level-headed argument for most things (e.g. in this case, folk like Bob Cooper, whilst I might not agree with everything he says, I will listen to); conversely, there are the holier-than-thou wankers that would have others believe that just because I don't dress to the left and don't worship (a common American trait) some self-help guru, then I'm a danger to society at large and not worth knowing?! With respect - fcuk them and the horse they came in on. Dive safe all - in a manner that suits you and is safe. Final Thought: If GI3 and JJ actually ran this DIR gig pro bono (that's gratis, for the peasants amongst you) - a la NAUI - where all profits went back into the benefit of diver training, and not to line their own pockets (a very 'un-American activity', I know.....where's Senetor MacCarthy when you need him? ;) ), then I'd give them more credence. Their 'message', such as it is, will for me be for ever tainted......as long as they're knocking out Gavins and dive kit and courses for profit. It's simply PADI with a different spin and an unfortunate choice in swimming trunks. (Edited by Bren Tierney at 2:57 am on Mar. 1, 2003)

Imported post Wise word Bren.... For the record....remember that GUE is a not-for-profit (i.e. a non profit distributing) organisation. Halcyon is manufacturing company which makes things, sells them and makes a profit. GUE is funded by its members, its products (decoplanner, publications, t-shirts etc.) and by its training income. GUE wouldn't exist if it didn't have its membership (a bit like BSAC). Jarrod is President of GUE and also CEO of Halcyon. Apart from that, the two organisations are separate. The Gavin scooters are assembled by George and sold by him (when you buy one, you make the cheque out to WKPP?)...not sure about the constitution of that one. George is, of course WKPP project director. The point (I think?) I'm trying to make is that there are a few organisations involved at the forefront of DIR which are really unrelated. When George speaks, he speaks for George and WKPP, not GUE or Halcyon. It can get a bit blurred, but the important thing to remember is that nobody "runs" DIR, it's a methodology, not a business. Hope this makes some sense...! Incidentally, if you are at LIDS tomorrow, drop by the Brittanic presentation and have a chat with Panos Alexakos and Andrew Georgitsis. Thoroughly top blokes!!
