| Slightly off topic, but got my new long hose and did the first dive with it yesterday. None of this round the neck stuff, I just friction-fitted the loop between the cylinder and the side of the wing. Breath was lovely. For a laugh, my buddy and I swapped gear for the second dive. On practicing the OOA drills, using the long hose was just LOVELY! Soooooooooooooo impressed with it. Try the drills with a mate who's got one and see what I mean! |

| Imported post OI Mdemon. Don't leave it stowed in the bungees constantly, Put it in before you dive and take it out when you've finished or it will kink like a goodun , like mine has. in fact i'll just go outside and sort it now. |

| Imported post Hi Ben, Sorry, but, I know the guy who had to do the report for the police . Although it can not be said it was a direct result of switching to 100%, it was calculated from his profile and from the gasses he was carrying that he had run his CNS right up (I do not know exactly the number). It has been suggested that he switched to the wrong gas, but, his buddy apparently has said this is not so. The reality is the rate your CNS increases on 100% is significantly faster than at 80%. My attitude is simple ----- why take an unnecessary risk---- I agree this is a dangerous sport, but, like all so called "extreme sports" the risks are there to be minimised. The whole of the DIR system is to this end. Whilst I do not dive DIR, for my own reasons, I follow a code of risk minimisation, not using 100% is one of these. I will argue this point till I burst. I don't expect others to necessarily agree with me, I just can not for the life of me see why they don't. Sorry and all that, but it is a firmly held opinion, backed up by some very unpleasant statistics i.e. dead people. For what it is worth the reason people can run up huge CNS clocks is because they take air breaks. I am not there yet but it is where my diving is going. Andrew

| Imported post <font color='#FF00FF'>surely using whatever mix for deco you shouldnt push your cns limits above 80%, (end of story) You will always get people who push limits, which is why you see dive profiles with 120% + cns, surely just asking for trouble. Basically I agree totally with you. People should always minimise risks but surely if a dive is planned properly (and i mean properly) and the plan is dived properly, everyone should minimise risks to an acceptable level. Is it not more when people cut corners, get complancent or lacksadazy that you increase the chance of FUBAR?? To be honest the whole argument of 100 vs 80, etc I suppose gets a bit to complicated in the realms of diving physiology and mathematics, I guess for everyone it comes down to what your happy with and what works for you. |

| Imported post Hi Ben, Yep, I agree with every word you say there. Still recon 80% is best Take care, hope we can meet some time, have a beer and carry this one on, I will persuade you Andrew

| Imported post <font color='#000080'>Hi WL I only comment on things I have personally experienced, I was told by a dir follower in Falmouth that "I was going to die" because I carry an extra hose and bag filler, when I took him to task about this he recited the manual about failiure points, entrapment hazards etc I then asked him how he deployed his to be told he hadn't got one. This IMO is an example of the kind of person that you hear on dive boats and fora over the country spouting dir, and the kind of person that again IMO makes an insurmountable hurdle for people like you to overcome, you may not be "ramming ideas etc but in my experience of dir's you are an exception, I take your point that you are an individual so why then put yourself into what many divers see as an elitist cult, do as I and many others do and glean ideas from everywhere and use and adapt them to suit you, no one system could ever work for everyone en bloc which I'm sure you will agree dir claims to do. Safe diving, Steve. [called a stroke many times] |

| Imported post <font color='#FF00FF'>thats far to articulate and nice a post! keeping names a secret I heard someone today spout a great quote, "Dir.....written by a moron, followed by morons" He (or she) probably should of excluded people who post on YD in the interests of fair play What do I know apparently (depending on which cult you speak to) Im a bubble blowing, fish prodding, aqua twat of a stroke. but if we were all the same it would be a boring world and we wouldnt even be talking let alone debating! Safe diving all ps. what was this thread about?? can we go back to slob knob bashing!!! |
