One of my mates sells DIR stuff, some good stuff and good ideas but i wouldn't say that any near him in case he heard me.  I've slagged him so often that even he admits that DIR stands for 'Doug Is Right'. See, they can be normal if you get them with a big loud bad attitude before they get a chance to get you. I've found that "yeah b*****ks" is a perfect response to any rant.

I was taught :-

1. Shut down the isolator - only needs to be open one (or two) turn(s) in the first place.
2. Close down the side that is losing gas.
3. If any contents left in the side that was losing gas then open the isolator again to make the remaining gas available out of the "good side".

I practise it and it works for me.

Smack in the teeth or nose,then while they're still bleeding push them over the side(make sure they've some weight on and,as they tend to favour dodgy membrane type suits that the zips open)),if they're any good at all they'll be fine,if they flap and splash about they're a waste of space.
If somebody's that bolshy to dictate to others in such a manner re,.their aquatic superiority then let them demonstrate it for all to see.
I dislike any form of violence but with concrete thinkers they need a proverbial wake up call.
Seriously speaking,we learn much of what we know even without actually experiencing it,what you must remember(and ask them)is this,have you or those who brought you to this point actually experienced every real or perceived eventuality?
There is only one answer.
Therefore how can somebody tell you that there is only one correct way to undertake a given task..it's absolutely ridiculous when it's viewed as such.
Yes,it's a safe system.Yes it's been proven in many extreme environments/conditions.Nobody but a fool would disagree.It is however the point reached so far,given the limits of a small groups experiences(which is then passed along and why DIR will tell you that the system is constantly developing.Does that mean that what was "Right" 3 years ago is no longer,well it probably might!).It is not final,and those who teach the system,(or anything) still always have things to learn which they have not yet come across or developed.The manner demonstrated above is that of one who appears to be oblivious/ignorant to this fact(and to be honest is not representative at all of the genuine DIR people I've had the priveledge to meet),I'd suggest they'e as harmfull to the whole DIR ethos as they are to our blood pressure.
If you find another one like that,tell him to ask Mark Lonsdale,who will teach/adopt whatever is needed for the task/environment(eg inverts)while being a great proponent and probably the most experienced diver overall in DIR circles in the US(?).If you don't want to smack him that is!
Rant over,I'm off for a wet!
Hobby.

Question Imported post

A man after my own heart! &nbsp;Indies - more hoses than B&amp;Q so twice as much fun tweaking when the vis is cr*p! &nbsp;And no dodgy knobs to worry about...

The KKK-lark brought a smile to my face - that's got to stick... &nbsp;ROFWL! &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

(I did pinch the long hose idea though - do I have to say some sort of &quot;Hail Mary&quot; or something?!)

<font color='#0000FF'>Ah! you saw &quot;A Time to Kill&quot; the other night as well &nbsp;

On a related note, a former dive buddy of mine (Jewish New Yorker) did a stint working in &quot;The South&quot; and was horrified to find that while the rest of America celebrates Martin Luther King Day, down in &quot;Dixie&quot; they celebrate Robert E. Lee Day and bang on about &quot;the South will rise again bwoy&quot; hmmmm....
