| Depth Have I dive beyond my qualifications? With students - No Just diving - of course I'm with Nigel on the last post, are you sure he made you go past 40M because that is asking for trouble

| Oh yes, we were all hovering at 39m as we were told that 40 was the limit. After a few minutes of him beckoning us down we settled on the bottom at about 41m. His excuse afterwards was that it was the only sandy patch he could find. since this trip he was ditched by the Dive Centre organising it!!. I have since learnt that your travel insurance only covers you up to your certified depth, which why I make sure I stay within my limits. Why go deep just to tick a box? its just macho bravado bollox in my opinion. |

They are told not to exceed the MOD and if they do its an instant fail. Makes for some very precise monitoring of depth ![]() |

| Past 40M Finless, as you asked so nicely. The reason that going beyond 40M is asking for trouble is that you are breaking a PADI standard and should anyone report it or should anything go wrong you'd be up $h1t creek with Padi without a paddle. If teaching in the UK the HSE could string you up if anything had happened. I always tried to use 35M as the max, with me the deepest diver. The briefing and dive plan was too never exceed 40M.

| beyond my abilities i once dived well beyond my abilities............. she was a lot older, and more experienced, not to mention about 12 stone heavier. but i have learned from that experience - and believe me i will not do it again! |

| Yes, but only by just under 2 metres.... probably doesn't count. (What is the accuracy on a depth guage at 30m -or 31.8m?) Andrew |

My Shearwater against my Suunto is often more than 1m differance. How do you know his computer showed 41m? Does any one realy give a toss about 1m here or there ????? Most travel insurance DOSENT cover you up to your certified depth. It only covers you to 30m Max no decompresion diving. Get proper cover via DAN Why go deep? Good question, Why do you go deep? You could do most dives in the typical AOW range dive trip in the red sea between 6m and 18m. So why do you go to 25 or 30m? Probably the same reasion I go to 100+ but I am just checking. ATB Mark

| I often go beyond my certification, although not beyond what I think I can safely do (I accept that these have been famous last words for many). If it goes wrong, I'm the only one that will pay the full price. When I dive with others I don't go beyond what they are capable of. RS |

| Yep, but planned, and that included a few 'last minute buddy decides to jump in before I am even zipped up' solo dives down to 43m in the UK.
