| Cheers all - thought about the overweighting but at the moment am just right for getting under. Will try slight head down and see how I get on - natural tendancy is just get into the normal swim position (Nick). Hmm guess am gonna have to give it time and practice. |

| you could borrow my twin10s - they'll stick you head down! just practice, practice, practice, preferably with an understanding buddy and an easy shallowish dive site... it's taken me heavy jetfins, and discreet (worn under my drysuit!) ankle weights for me to get my trim almost there - and friday i have to adjust my cylinders again so it's back to square 1...! |

| I'll probably get ridiculed for this reply but what the hell... I had similar problems, then I did a Peak Performance Buoyancy course and it totally sorted me out.. Turned out that I was actually overweighted by about 3.5kgs - amongst over things - even though I was convinced that my weighting was bang on.. It was one of the best sixty squids I've ever spent and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone having these sorts of problems....

| Over-weighting Over-weighting is a bit like DCI/DCS - most people are in denial... It never ceases to amaze me how much weight you can take off people - I've taken upto 15Kg off people who've been certain they're correctly weighted!!! Also, when was the last time you did a weightcheck? Every time you change your kit, your drysuit/thinsulate, lose/gain weight, etc it makes a difference. Don't forget to do the weightcheck with low contents in your cylinders - preferably <50B. Alternatively, do the weighcheck at the end of the dive, get your self neutrally buoyant and then calculate the weight of the "excess air" (i.e. the volume above say 50B) and add that back to your weightbelt. Also, don't forget that as you become more experienced / more confident, you can normally reduce the amount of lead... |

I have never seen you in the water so these comments are not directed at you but in my experience of people in a similar position to you I have advised.... When you do your weight check, make sure you cross your fins (so you can't move your legs) and gently clasp your hands together (so you can't scull). Then relax!!! I am sure you will be surprised at how much wiehgt can be taken off in this way It's interesting to see how many people are finning upwards at the surface in order to stay at the surface. Rgrds Mal |
