| Imported post Hmmmm.....some very differnt views, quite healthy all in all. Normally i would say that I wouldn't anticipate solo diving, though it did happen once, kind of accidentally on purpose but in 6 metres of 30 degree water with a vigilant professional boat skipper keeping an eye on me and my not-buddy who was off taking photos of corals. under those conditions I don't think I was in any danger, even though I only had a single 12L. I wouldn't have bothered posting on this topic except that this weekend I have to be at Low Newton (Northumberland) very early on sunday morning(related to my girlfriends ornithology project) and will have time to spare. As I haven't been in the water for a good few weeks now (we need an emoticon for withdrawal symtoms), and as Low Newton is a very protected bay, max depth about 5 metres and I've never been able to persuade anyone to check it out with me before, I thought I MIGHT try a little solo dive. So...if anyone wants to put in a prospective bid on a bunch of dive kit, drop me a line and I'll let you have "her indoors" e-mail address as I think she'll give up diving if I snuff it ;) Alternatively, if the main bit of the coast isn't blown out there's always Beadnell Point or Knackers Hole if anyone fancies it? | Imported post I believe I am "required" to deposit "she who must be obeyed" at Low Newton for 8am !!! (Its sunday FFS!)which means leaving Gateshead around 7am I think, so it'll be an early start. We could car share, or if it looks to be a bit of a drag for you I could meet you at Beadnell around 8.30-9am. Tide will be high around 8am (think we're back to GMT this weekend) height about 6.4 m above LAT. Was probably planning to do just the one longish dive then head for some nosh. Alternatively, if you prefer two-dives per day, I could speak to "the powers that be" to see if she fancies joining us for a second dive after her birding. Will have to see about fills, not sure how long my twin 10s would last over two dives as they're still fairly new kit to me, not sure if Beadnell dive centre is open at this time of the year. Anyhoo, you've got my home phone number (I did mail it to you yesterday didn't I?) if you want to make arrangements off line. Cheers Steve |

| Imported post Aaaah slight confusion Stevey ma boy... I'm always up for a dive ceptin this week as I leave for Egypt tonight.. Hopefully I'll be hovering over some kick arse coral reef over the next week... I've just confirmed my 10 dive package with Emporer Divers and my kits packed and ready to go.... I got your phone number last night Steve but it was late so I didn't bother you, I'll give you a bell when I get back and we'll arrange something soon thereafter hopefully Best Regards mate Dave. |

| Imported post Egypt, oh, how awful...NOT! I'd say "have fun", but that would be a bit like saying "Oh no its raining!" when you live in Ireland or the Lake district. A mate of mine saw a whale shark and a rather overly interested reef shark last time he was there, so I look forward to reading your trip report ;) Cheers Steve |

| Imported post Go on Davey, remind us where you're going again?? One very jealous southern softie here. Have a great time, take lots of photos, watch out for italian's t*rds if they lunch next to you. Bad habit of flushing the toilet just as you all enter the water. Everyone will be finning desperately on on the line trying to avoid the brown sticky fish! We always wanted to catch it on a fin and wheek it back aboard their boat - dare you! |

What are you complaining about? That DM thing I mentioned in the "Drysuit Fit" thread means I'm up at 05:30 to be at the shop for 06:30 and on the road t'other side a bonnie Scootlan' Yae feggin saftie. ;) |

| Imported post THe problem is that until about 9am I can really classify myself as fit for human company :wierdo: don't do mornings particularly well,:tired: which for a diver is unfortunate :eyecrazy: Luckily, intensely strong coffee just about manages the impossible :spike: So...for those who have to engage me in early moring communications for the TDI course, one grunt means yes and two grunts means no :monkey_2: ;) Steve |

| Imported post Interesting to see the solo diving topic has came up again. So here's my two bobs worth (10p) Taking a new diver in the water for the first time, yes I would say I am diving solo, but if I got trapped or fell ill, that trainee could alert the others on the shore to come to my aid if he/she could not rescue me. Providing that there are some people on shore. |
