Alternative to EFR?

My EFR cert expires in a couple of months, and I was wondering if there are any more 'diving related' alternatives?
I understand that EFR now includes AED, which it didn't 2 yrs ago, so there would be some benefit in me refreshing with them, but is there anything else I should consider?

Thats the funny thing, I don't actually know any dive related first aid courses. EFR doesn't really have any diving content. Also, as far as I know, EFR can have defib and basic o2 admin but its dependent on the cert of the instructor and availability of the kit.

St johns is supposed to be a good course (and cheaper)

BSACs first aid course is tailored towards divers. Although I haven't done it personally (I did HSE first aid at work.)

A Red Cross first aid at work course is accepted as a a BS-AC First Aid equivalent.

Adding to my initial question, how many people formally renew their First Aid/CPR training, or do you rely on 'home refreshing'?

I do, in a First Aider at Work capacity, so it has to be done officially.

Yup. Like Paul I renew as well through First-Aid at work. However most of the club end up refreshing tow and AV pretty much annually.

Also there's nothing like teaching it to make sure your skills are up to scratch.

Sorry to resurrect a very old thread, but does anyone know which St Johns course is classed as equivalent to EFR?

I did EFR 4 years ago and we didn't use an AED and reading the St Johns Basic & Emergency First Aid course looks the same as I did on EFR then.

Obviously my EFR is now lapsed and I will need some form of first aid when I finally get my arse in gear to do Rescue Diver and I'd rather not be over charged by PADI when I can get the same thing through ST Johns for less.

PADI dont charge you anything for the course that is down to your dive centre or Instructor.
Most places will charge you a reduced fee if you buy the EFR course at the same time as rescue so somewhere in the £40 mark would be about right.

Thanks Rod, but that's not what I asked. I have checked with a few local schools and they have all said as it's over 4 years since I did my EFR they would want me to do it from scratch and the old course materials are outdated so new crew pack will be needed. I know I can get it a bit cheaper when combined, but I don't want to do RD right now (cold water and a semidry ), so I want to do a first aid course during the non diving season.

So I know that for RD you have to have EFR or equivalent, but can find no mention of what those equivalents may be and this is what I want to know.
