Cautionary Tales.

Found this link in my favorites which I must have added ages ago. The article that caught my eye was about OW divers just "having a look" in a cave system without the correct training/equipment, and paying a heavy price.

There are other articles further down the page.

"Having a quick look" in any unusual dive environment to that in which you are trained really is one of the biggest no-no's that you can do. You really have to respect the underwater environment as it can bite back very nastily.
But then, I'm telling you all to suck eggs again, aren't I kiddies ?

That was one of the big things I remembered from cave diving literature. 9 out of 10 deaths in caves were people with no training and wrong equipment. Think about it before you go in...

As an older [and therefore wiser] instructor said to me:

"If you can't drink it you can drown in it".

The most frequently used complacentcy statement: "It's only Stoney/Vobster/Leybourne...."

Those articles should be made a compulsary read to all. Thanks Darren for sharing them with us.
And like Freeflow says which I was told a few years ago "If you can't drink it you can drown in it". makes soooooooo much sense!!!!!!!!

I was reading those while doing my confined water the week before I was due to go to Capernwray and do my open water.

Did they put me off...? Nope.

Did they make me realise the importance of Buddy checks, listening to what my instructor said and ultimately taking responsibility for myself while down in the drink...?

You bet...!

It's a shame that there have been so many wasted lives through the sport of diving but while humans enjoy adventure and exploration they will continue to take fool hardy risks.
