| B) No seriously maybe it was during server doo dahs and it got missed. I practice reg swaps frequently, well I would wouldnt I as I use indies Other stuff I tend to practice is mask removal, but I like to do that when its about 5C in water, although I do tend to deliberately flood my mask even in winter to be up to date in shock therapy. I also practice shutdowns on my manifolded twins. Kit removal, not underwater, although it is something I do mean to do soon as I have swapped to a single piece harness. Inside the Staney might be a good place, assuming I have already told my buddy of course. Matt |

| It's all about motor skills. The DIR mob are the only ones that make a big song and dance about it but it's considered unsporting to have a dig at them so we ignored you. I keep my hands trained by only switching the rig on and turning the gas on once I have put it on. This means I can just reach for a valve blind and turn it, reach for a piece of kit and clip it/unclip it. If you have the valves behind your head it is so difficult to get to them you have to practise hard but when I put mine where I could reach them I ended up on the 'stroke pictures' website. |

Sorry I couldn't resist it. I dive from time to time with a DIR type person and we do drills - I'm not DIR by inclination but have found the drills and the concepts useful and thought provoking. Sometimes challenging - Stoney for 1 hr+ and 5 degrees and not doing much physically can be cooling. Whether continuous repetition is ultimately useful I don't know. It wouldn't work for me since my rig is almost the same each dive I do tend to clip DSMBs. reels and torches on the nearest empty or nearly empty D ring rather than the recommended ,and more anal, everything in it's alloted place. Variety is all

I'm not DIR I'm BSAC, I was just wondering how many off us carry out repetitve drills/training once we have learnt the drills. Take my club as an example. Great instructors, totally happy with the training I have recieved, yet once the latest batch of trainees have gone through their training the pool lies empty for the best part of the year. In a club enviroment maybe there should be more of an emphasis on practicing skills and perhaps we should take a cue from the DIR guy's and keep practicing, after all this is the advice given to the BSAC NDC by Jack Ingle
