Navy Diver Training

Hello people,

So far i've found this forum very helpful.
I'm 19 and joining the Royal Navy in about a month, going in as a Diver, i know about the training and prospects in the navy... but what i'd like to know is the Naval Divers wanted by commercial diving companies once you come out.. As i'd like to carry on into commercial diving when i leave the navy! Any help, or if you know any1 and could get them to message me would be greatfully appreciated... Thnxs, Dean

Cool

Looks like you want to run before you can walk to me. I joined the RN with no real idea what I wanted to do and ended up there for 15 years. You might decide to make a career of it, seems a bit odd to be planning what to do afterwards at this stage, in fact it shows a complete lack of commitment.

sod off son, I trained many a young matelot in my time and if you won't listen to those more experienced that's your problem, believe me, I've spent more time on one wave than you've spent at sea.

Well as a Ex Matelot of 15 years I can tell you its gonna take about 6 weeks to rid you of that arrogance...

joining the Navy or any of the Forces is not a job its a commitement to a way of life. If you are entering to it with a view to get out and become a commercial diver I suggest you take a really hard look at yourself and your motivation. Because you are making a mistake, save up 3-4 grand and take the training to be a Commie now before your too old and Too F****ed for anything else especially Commericial diving.

The Navy is neither Glamerous or well paid. It's hard work and 80 hour weeks are not unusual at sea. Pretty much like Commie diving I believe.

Is it a good life? Yup until you want to settle down then its Arse. 3 out of 5 marriages fail and I spent 9 years of the 15 I managed to get through out of the UK.

If you do decide to go for it and get through training without failing and being told you can be a Steward or a painter then come back in a year and let me know how you get on. I can guarantee you will be as cynical as the rest of us and you'll understand what it means to be a Matelot.

Give my regards to Mr Mckewans..
