| Bicycle kick, followed by rapid arm flapping Sorry, a little disengenious there. Have you tried the frog kick? It can take some getting used to, but is good in areas where you don't want to kick up silt.

| There is no "one size fits all" with finning techniques. Different fin strokes are suitable for different situations. |

| What's wrong with the way you were taught Just move your legs up and down |

| Depends what you mean by "best" I suppose. For outright power/speed I find the standard full leg flutter kick is the best, along with sticking my arms out above my head for extra streamlining (like a high diver). It's a bit hard on the buddy though if they're behind you Most times I'm bimbling so just stick to frog kicking if there's silt, or anything else I can invent on the spur of the moment - as long as it requires no effort. If it's distance covered with least kick cycles you're after, work it out for yourself with a measured distance at the bottom of your nearest puddle. Use a reel with about 20/30 metres or so and count the fin kicks and/or note how long it takes.

| The frog kick works me. It helps to reduce stirring up the silt.

| I tend to use the frog kick if I am just bimbling along in not much current, but it's probably not a perfect example of the frog kick !! When battling against a current or for when I want power or speed I go for the classic 'leg up and down' kicks. I use the IDEA3 fins at the moment but they are about 5 years old and I want a change. I fancy the Original Force Fins (http://www.forcefin.com/FF_PAGES/FF_...ve_product.htm) or the Excellertaing Force Fins (http://www.forcefin.com/FF_PAGES/FF_...ce_product.htm) but am still trying to figure out if they are good with a frog kick. If you learn the frog kick you will be pleased with it, as will the people behind you as you will kick up less silt. |
