Kim,

Thanks for the link, I could remember reading it when it came out in the mag. but it ws useful to read it again.

I couldn't agree more on the quality of the instructor and general approach of the Dive Centre. I mention above that I have done all of my post Open Water training with EDC and to date it has been very thorough. For example, when I did the rescue diver course, they threw so much at me on the last day that I was in my wettie for 8 hours solid and they even managed to hide my fins just before I had a panicing diver on the surface. The Divemaster who was playing the part of the panicing diver did everything he could to punch me, rip my mask off, sink and generally be a pain.

With all of this in mind, I will be having a long conversation with the Techie instructor to ensure a) I'm confident that he/she is up to the job and b) that I have the necessary skills to even start the course.

Thanks

John

Unhappy Update.... GM won't be doing the course....

Although I meet most of the entry criteria i.e. rescue diver, 100+ dive's, deep diver. ENX cert. The instructor thinks (rightly so) that I don't have enough dive's on ENX. So guess I will have to do a load and then do the course.

It's nice to see a dive centre putting quality before cash...

Don't know if this is helpful

I did the TecDeep course and thought it was extremely good. Materials are better than any out there and it was very comprehensive. I'm now in the TecRec Trimix.

I know there's been a lot of internet bashing of PADI (DSAT) coming into the tech market but I think you really need to look at the instructor. My instrutor was crossing over from TDI/ANDI and was great. If you are ever in Sacramento, California, USA, let me know and I'll put you in touch with him!

I agree with Tony, the DSAT courses come in for a lot of bashing from other areas. What you can't argue with is the materials, DSAT have made this area their own, if you compare to IANTD (which I am a Technical Nitrox Inst) and TDI etc they have just lost the edge to DSAT.

Also very true, you can't discount the instructor that will take the course. You have to look at the type of diving he does himself. How experienced is he? Does he do this sort of diving on a regular basis, not just for training? When I did my DSAT Tec Deep my instructor actually gave me more than the minimum number of dives in order to really make sure I understood the reasons I was doing the skills.

Just my 2 cents worth
