| 1st dive in a dry suit in salt water from a RIB. A lot in one go Dan. There is plenty of shore diving possible in S. Devon Dan, your intructors should know where. I would opt for the quarry if not shore, not worrying about having a 'proper' dive, but getting weighting right with 50bar left (best in salt if thats where most diving will be) and other familiarity issues. That way you will likely be happier during future dives, rather than continuing to have little issues distracting you. Adrian

Trouble is he is learning good and bad from the dive centre. It's them that are leaving him in this position. Adrian

| Hmm I agree with the others. That's a huge task loading you are taking on there - I suggest one step at a time ![]()

I think you are also trying to convince yourself the instructor is right, my old club wouldn't let you in the sea for the first time in a drysuit. |

Are we talking about a uni club that is offering you the HSE SCUBA course ? No-one is saying that you shouldn't dive in the sea or anything ,,, but it does sound like your running before walking , mate. Like me & everyone here, we are just looking out for you and passing advise from our experience's. I have known commie divers give up a course from the start from 2 or 3 BAD dry suit experiences , which is a shame .

| 1st dive in your nice new drysuit with unfamiliar kit, unfamiliar surroundings and a first boat dive? I'd say do one thing at a time, IMO the boat should come after the rest. But, hey, it's your call I'd only give one piece of advise and that is what has already been said - WEIGHT. Remember you will need MORE weight than in still water, and on top of that you need to check your weight out with the drysuit you are using as it is new to you. Trust me, the LAST thing you need is your bouyancy going tits up at the end of the dive. I had an incident last year when I borrowed an Ali cylinder, don't ask - long story - how I didn't get bent I have no idea. Hope it all goes well for you! |
