RNLI Evening in Leeds! OK So not technically a trip report but more of an "activity" report!
Last monday, Cliff from the RNLI came to the Leeds Met Uni Club to do a lifeboat demonstration in the pool. We had a bit of a talk in the classroom first and then headed off to the pool.
Dressed in our best pajamas, we learnt how to put on a lift jacket, how to keep warm and how to create a train type formation, to swim in convoy to our awaiting liferaft, whilst attempting to shout "pull" to get some co-ordination to our arm waving!!!! We all had a go a righting a turned over life raft and then came the "fun" part.
I still stand by my assumption that diving is the sport in which you get man handled the most. From instructor ensuring your shoulder straps are tight enough to littleH shoving my bum to get me into the liferaft!
For some unknown reason I was the first on into the raft resulting in me landing in a rather ungraceful heap in the bottom in a fit of giggles. We had five people in a five person raft and well it wasnt spacious but it would keep you warm!!!
I don't suppose it would help that I am not the smallest person on the block and Jonboy insisted on sprawling out with his "biatches" (me and littleH) whilst Trevor and Chris paddled up back to "shore".
The girls then had a special briefing about the best way to get inot a lift raft without your "built in floation devices" getting in the way (after we'd just struggled trying to do it convetionally!).
Resulting in round two of the girls having a second go launching in backwards! Quite a feat I tell you!
So after all the fun and frivolity we waved goodbye to Cliff (what a jolly nice man!) and went to the pub for a hard earned drink. A fun night for a serious reason and well worth it.!!!
Photos coming soon!!
