Quite scary how big these things are! I have never seen one before but have seen lots of octopusses (octopi? Octopussies?) around Abbs. How nosey are cuttles, or are they just being stroppy and trying to warn you off? There was a thread about "talking" with them a while ago. Actually, since they go off colour, what the hell do they make of Howard?

They're very 'nosey' definitely intelligent. Several times I've been teaching down in Chesil Cove, and several have appeared and checked us out while doing skills - hung around for several minutes watching and swimming person to person

Also had a couple swim right up to my mask - very eerie feeling having an eye to eye with one.

Ah, so the message is finally getting through! We'll convert all you die hard quarry dippers into proper salty divers yet.

There's a certain joy to diving and seeing something you've never encountered before. Not much chance of that on dive 100 in Capernwray.

(Though, on my 100th dive, which was in Capernwray, I did see a sturgeon for the first time. How ironic is that?)

I'm keeping everything crossed for a sighting on our forthcoming Porthkerris trip...not had the opportunity to see them before...

Can't wait!

Saw some on my shore-dives down there last year, so a good chance we'll see some. I'll bring my cuttle-spotting mask with me

We saw some last year also, there's a sandy bit just before the gap in the rocks where they hang out.
Enjoy

Well if you really, really want to see Cuttlefish...

http://www.babbacombebeach.com/

At this time of year it is a very unlucky dive if you don't see one.

But to watch two mating pairs for 25 minutes, females laying eggs, territorial fights on one dive... well that is just taking the piss to be honest! You'll be telling us next you were surrounded by cuttlefish at one point!

Some people have dived for many years and not seen that much action.
