Smile Kintyre - Wemyss Bay 10th May

Finally managed to do a true Scottish sea dive last night, the others having all been sea lochs. The Kintyre is theoretically easy to find, you swim along parallel to the coast til you find a sewage pipe running out to sea, follow the pipe and you find a line running to the bow of the wreck. This is all well in theory but due to a strong current it took us 18 minutes to find the pipe, by the time we reached the line the OC guys decided they'd had enough that left only 3 of us (YBOD's) to go to the wreck. It's not a spectacular wreck by any standards but the vis was good and there's a lot of life, swam down to the stern at 46m then back up the other side before making our way back.

This was my deepest air dil dive on the unit and I felt fine, compared to the sea lochs the water temperature must have been a degree or two higher so I was quite a bit more comfortable. "Bonkers the dog" from YD was there too, trip was organised by Atlantic Divers, they seem like a good bunch of guys.

Hi Ian,

Yes, an interesting dive to say the least! Down at 30 mtrs hanging onto 2 sharp sticks stuck into the bottom of the clyde so I don't end up washed up in Glasgow, nil viz and 2 broken torches! Never got to see the wreck after all.

Should have gone to the pub after all, my legs are still sore from that entry and exit...... and I thought I was fit.

Did see the hugest crab though; well dug in under the pipe and not willing to play.

C.U. round the sites mate

Ross

John is very well, he's just been resting between contracts for 5 months like myself so we've been fitting midweek and weekend dives in for the last month that I've been back. The lucky sod is going to Skye today for 3 days so I'm buddyless for Sunday :-(

Yes it has to be the least dignified entry I have ever done, ending up wedged between two rocks, not helped by trying to protect HID at the front and YBOD at the back.
