| The mad keen, or simply mad among us turned up to St Abbs for a dive last night despite the pouring rain and very lumpy sea. Seeing your skipper decked out in fluorescent orange oil skins and the biggest pair of platform wellies I have ever seen was never going to be a good sign. We kitted up in the harbour and rocked and rolled our way over to the flattest bit of sea we could find. Myself and Gary dropped in and down to 12m where the vis was maybe 3m maximum with a heavy surge. We followed the brief *shock horror* and headed north West along the boulders with some nice little sea squirts and other small scale life visible between the rocks. Soon we ended up down at 18m where the vis dropped to 1.5m and very green. We checked our bearings and headed in what we hoped was the right direction. A patch of slightly better vis and I decided that this was probably going to be the best opportunity I was going to get to practice my drills so did the basic 5 (minus mask removal as even I am not that keen). Unfortunatley I managed to bugger up the seal on my mask so spent the next 5 minutes constantly clearing it until we stopped so I could sort it out properly, bloody thing. At this point we decided to call it a day as Gary managed to chunder at 18m – well impressed! Up to 6m then 3m where I decided to see if you can frog kick upside down. Yeah, you can, but it’s a bugger trying to get upright again. Back onto the boat for a cup of coffee and Gary going almost as green as the water in the rolling swell. Apparently it is a stomach bug as he spent most of the night talking to god on the big porcelain phone. Boat is booked for 7pm next Tuesday if anyone wants to join us.

| Porg , as you are YDs resident st abbs specialist can you give me a forcast for this weekend , myself and a few others are due up on friday night for a weekend of diving, any help greatly appreciated kind regards Paul |

| Specialist? At what? getting lost I should be up there too, providing all the cunning plans work out. This is a very useful link - its the webcam at St Vedas hotel which is about 1/4 a mile south of Abbs itself. You can get a pretty good idea of what it is doing from that. http://www.a1surf.com/surfcheck-coldingham.html The vis was pants last night, but the wind is light and hopefully the tide should shift the crap away fairly quick, although i wouldnt expect the vis to be outstanding by the weekend.
