Lemme guess - pair of Ali 7's with flat bottoms? Or would that mess with the bouyancy too much???

I believe so. You need to get to the course depth in a reasonable amount of time, and a leisurely fin out is just wasting time in the shollows.

The rope is anchored into the bottom at various points with weighs. If you pull then it should be ok however if you yank up and down the weights move in the silt sending up a cloud. Seen it a couple of times. After a while the whole area gets cloudy.
