What we saw and did in Porthkerris!

It was a last minute decision to drive down to Porthkerris on Friday morning. We'd only intended to camp for one night, do Drawna Rock on Saturday morning, then drive back to Plymouth in the afternoon, but ended up staying for two nights as we were having such a nice time.

We arrived at about 2.30pm, to be told that the rib was leaving for Vase Rock at 4pm with spaces on it. As I'd never dived it before but had heard good things about it, we decided to go. I'm very glad we did Here are some photos, the first ones I've ever taken underwater (so please feel free to be patronising!) Oh yes, and I know that you can only see the fish's tail in one of them, but it's such a pretty colour I decided to include it.














And there is a fishie in that last one, if you look really hard!

Saturday morning saw Paul and I at Drawna Rock, with me trying twin 7s for the first time. I can quite honestly say I hated every minute the buggerdly things were strapped to my back. I felt like I was fighting against them the whole time and, more disconcertingly, that my feet were floating way above my head. Paul informed me afterwards that that scary and unfamiliar sensation was known as 'perfect trim'. That's as maybe. I still felt as though my face was being pushed down into the seabed. But I'll give them one more chance

Afterwards, we drove around the Lizard doing the touristy bit. We stopped off at Church Cove and walked down to the small cliff overlooking the bay, only to be greeted by the sight of three basking sharks cruising up and down! We watched them for about 10 minutes, before they headed off around the coast.

The weather was fabulous, the water was warm, the starfish kept nice and still while they were being photographed and the lamb shank in the Three Tuns was gorgeous - all in all a perfect weekend!

hey, nothing wrong with them photo's at all. Not get any pics of the basking sharks?

Starfish can be pretty good at posing, other fish sorts not so much!

Great report and lovely pics girl! Keep persevering with the twins - at least you got to try them this weekend, more than I did with mine!

My friend is a ship's captain in the Merchant Navy. He sailed into Falmouth yesterday with an escort of ten Basking Sharks. I'm really jealous of the lot of you!

Sounds like you had a fabbo time down there Kirstie...great pics too!

Make sure you persevere with the 7's...I have recently switched to these and have loved gthem from the first dive (but then I was using twin 12's for UK diving before!!!)

There were another 2 in the bay today, about 50m off Castle beach.
