I'm absolutely lost for words. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience so that I and others may learn from it. Glad you are both okay.

When Garf told the story in the pub a day later he seemed so much cooler about it. Maybe it was a couple of pints steadying things, but I remember thinking how calm he seemed. Oh wellRuined that image for me!
On a more serious note, this scared me when we were up there. Enough to tie in to the shotline on pretty much all the dives afterwards. This is a solution to really crap viz diving and the risk of not being able to get out of the wreck, and if anytone is nervous about this it is reassuring and works. I'd been swimming free all over the wrecks previous to this and it could have been any one of us, but I know trip reports like this can be scary for other people especially those who've not seen really cack viz maybe, and if in doubt could help you.
Well done guys. You both did the right thing and got out.
Digs.
Both C & I got a bit teary there Garf. So, so glad that you and John are alive, if not unscarred by that.
Well done on writing it up. Food for thought.

Shit, heard you'd had a bit of a to-do, but didn't realise quite how bad it was.
Glad you're still both with us.

Both you guys did waaay above and beyond what is reasonably expected in a desire to assist each other. Neither of you can possibly have anything to feel ashamed of you are both absolute heroes in my book. We talk of the things we might to to assist a buddy on here, but in cold dark water, with a truckload of fear, you both set aside your instincts and risked your lives and sanity big time to help each other out.
That whole report is a stark warning to those of us who have nowhere near the ability, experience and comfort level in the water as you guys.
I feel that we should also commend Jag and the other folks on the boat who performed so quickly and so admirably keeping their cool and doing right when it all really hit the fan.
I think I am only beginning to understand what a buddy and surface cover really means.

This has to be the understatement of the year ! I've been diving for over thirty years and had some close calls but this story makes my blood run cold. Thank you for an excellent post Garf and well done to the pair of you.Originally Posted by Garf
