Very glad to hear you are both ok. I think that's about the most upsetting and terrifying thing I've read (nearly had me crying at the desk which wouldn't have been good), and I bet it doesn't cover half of it. I think you're both very brave. I also think I'll be mostly reeling off in Scapa the week after next...

    Best wishes, stay safe, Ellie

I was very glad to hear that you were both OK.

Despite being in a situation that none of us would want to be in you both dealt with it in a way that worked out well. Unless you have been in an oh sh!t moment no one knows how they would react for real. Most expereinced divers have lots of experience of dives going well, not that many have experience of these types of moments and it is moments like these that distinguish survivors from statistics.

Garf, going back into the wreck when you realised you had lost jw must have taken a huge deal of courage and shows how much your mind was on the team rather than just on yourself.

and jw, making the decision to blow off the deco in order to raise the alarm simillarly takes a huge amount of focus on your buddy rather than just yourself.

Finally writing and posting this must have been very difficult. But you can see from the reaction it has made people think about situations just like these. So in the end a positive result all round!

Just don't leave it too long before you get back in the water.

It was just a shade under two hours, but I was having fun and filling the goodie bag with spidge. I was also putting some demons to rest.

Oddly when I inadvertantly found myself inside a wreck in zero viz the conversation than ran through my head was almost identical!

I was fortunate in that it wasn't at the same depth so not the same gas worries and I'd already lost my buddy before getting inside so only myself to worry about. In comparison it was a walk in the park compared to your experience but it was still enough to scare the shit out of me.

Glad that you got out safe and that you've got back into the water too.

Now, where's that spare reel got to? I think I might be needing that . . .

Congratulations on both of you for getting back, you both acted selflessly in looking for your buddy, one missing stops, one going back into the wreck.

You both got back, you both learnt, you both had the balls to post this report.

    Well Done.

    Glad your both ok.

The hairs on the back of my neck were up and a horrible cold chill ran down my spine just reading this report.

This would be a good report to pin up in a clubhouse to show lesser experienced divers who want to go that bit deeper/longer too soon. What can happen to the best of us,and how when the shit does hit the fan that more experienced divers can dig themselves out of a problem, sometimes without realising it. Never underestimate good training and experience building.

    Well done guys
It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice.

There is nothing that I can say that has not been written allready. The quality of the writing was very, very high and genuinly affected me when I first read it a couple of hours ago,and I still feel chilled. You have no real reason to doubt yourselves. To overcome true Panic ,which is terror and a desperate need to flee ,in such an environment and to put your buddy first was humbling to read.I am sure many of us would not have done anywhere near as well as either of you. Thank you for the post,I am sure it will be re read many many times.Hope the demons fade quickly.
