Just for LOU, Farnes trip report

So, we arrived, or rather they all did ages before me so by the time i got to the pub they were all sozzled and I had some catching up to do. Had a chat and hugs from lots of people that I hadn't seen for ages, put the world to rights with Howard (who still hasn't sent me that book on men and how society's expectations don't allow them to express themselves) , discussed life love and relationships at length with Digger and Mal, where Mal's cheese toasted sandwich comment will live on in my mind at very inopportune moments until I get some councilling to remove it.

Got back about 1am and slept until Fiona started clog dancing and laughing a lot at 07:00 upstairs, got up and looked for breakfast only to find that it wasn't available until 08:00 . Went outside to watch MAl "DIR"ing Fi's kit , boltsnaps and cave line everywhere.

Brekkie, banter and then down to harbour

where we waited and waited

steve s , becky Dudess, Demi- John, jamesie, Howard Dude, paul oliver, Mal,

We waited for at least an hour for all these people to get their rabble sorted out ....

gary and KAthy, some other people I dont know , the Dundee brothers Chris and Fatboy
eventually they departed so we got on our boat and set off.

I don't normally get seasick, honest! But from the minute the boat got outside the harbour and started to roll I felt lousy.

Did two dives, Can't remember where. The first one was deeper than the second and I was buddied with John. He found a rather nice octopus which had a shrimp for company

also some nice lobbies

there was a wall and near the top of it I bonded with a pipe fish

This was the only time all day when i wasn't feeling sick.

For lunch we stayed on the boat which rolled and pitched. I ate three grapes and even refused the famous Fiona banana cake.

second dive was looking for seals... just looking but no finding you understand. I was with Paul Oliver who did claim to have seen one. The Farnes has a lot of Rocks that look like sleeping seals.

You know what? if you feel sea sick don't go looking for seals in kelp in swell. After half an hour of looking for seals and not finding any and coming across John (the third member of our buddy team allegedly) dragging around a weight belt he had found on the bottom, we decided to call it a day.

I was green all the way back and had a shower and went to bed for two hours.

Felt better in time for dinner at the Links which was lovely. Mal's Choclate Torte desert was declared to be extremely good indeed as it was devoured by 6 forks simultaneously.

Sunday: woke up and decided that I was only going to get on the boat if the waves were less hostile looking than yesterday. They weren't.

Sunday, blown out. went home.

I did enjoy the weekend but I only hope that this seasickness was an aberation. I give my full respect to you regular chunderers as you must really want to dive if you still do it when you feel so bloody aweful!

I am back in the Farnes again next weekend with my club so hoping for less choppy seas.

Jules

is that OK miss Louise?

Oooh, oooh Missus! WE couldn't leave til the other boat moored next to us carried all their stuff over OUR boat and on to theirs. Except for Digger, who kindly let Gary (Scubanut) carry all his kit on aboard for him. Kept ages we woz, and we had to put up with that darned pikey whingeing on and on and on...

Nice report Jules, and nice to meet you even though briefly (I'm in the fetching green hat).

Good report Jules.

Myself and Paul Oliver had close encounters with a couple of seals on dive one, so they were definately there, just keeping a low profile. We had a reasonable first dive, my second was binned as I managed to gash my drysuit and flood it after the first 23 minuits. I soldiered on for a 55+ min dive, gradualy getting wetter till I could no longer feel my right arm, I then got my second surprise as I tried to deploy my DSMB and my reel fell to bits!, Paul wondered what the hell I was playing at when I had to retrieve it from the bottom as I had deployed it mid water about 5m above the seabed. So if you are reading this Paul, I'm not always as accident prone - honest!
