| Right, from a club member (not your club) who hasn't been on a real trip this year. Dives are never planned much ahead. Prices rocket, folks want B&Bs and meals out All clubs are click based. sit back and watch folks form groups on club night. Folks who have never been before don't know the sites, new divers have never seen current. Depth may be an issue as well. Some folks might not like the loudmouth who always ends up on the trips. many folk work weekends. how about a newbies only weekend dive? |

| Hi. On our August bank holl dive we go to the Farnes. 15 years ago we had 4 ribs and every place filled, with boats sometimes going out for a second wave to take the overflow, petrol reasonably priced, launching from opposite Beadnell campsite free but awkward. This year, petrol and towing cost's through the roof, Beadnell boat launch too dear so now we have to save money by launching and leaving 3 boats in Seahouses harbour. From 20+ divers down to 8 and that was a struggle, the club has more members now than 15 years back, but less active divers even though the Farnes trip was geared up to the newer members, of which only 2 managed to turn up!. Same as most clubs the same nucleus of divers came on the dives, this is not clique diving, it is the true divers who go every week. The cost of diving and the ease of training compared to the original training makes it a sport that hasn't the same intrinsic value, encouraging the butterfly divers who try it for a bit get a badge and bugger off. Make me wonder why we bother. If we could get divers to build a team from any club that is interested, who are prepared to get off their arse and dive regularly, that would be a fine thing.

slowly getting to know interested YDers we keep filling trips, 6 divers on 2 ribs this week was good, 2 ribs particularly when 1 of them had electronic problems - like GPS, radio and depth sounder out!!!! the other one bilge punp not working!!!!! with 2 ribs no real problem!! with the number of divers not a problem - we all had fun its the others who are missing out!!!!! mind you they seem to enjoy the social side!. . . . . . |

| Could it be that the others just aren't as interested in diving as the 6-7 are? You could have a load of members who like diving, and like to be part of the club, but really are so interested that they are willing to pay with money and time for a full weekend of diving. If that is so then no matter what you do, it just isn't going to happen as you aren't all on the same wavelength. I think in the end, you will somehow need to ask the traitors - but you know that already.
