Atlantic Divers 24 hour Charity Drive 8/10/06

The event took place at the Tearooms, a well known training site just south of Furnace on Loch Fyne.

Well after all the publicity......... we turned up at 01.00. Loads of lights, marshalls, a path down to the water, well lit rope to 6m deco station and then the well lit rope continued along the rocky breakwater for a couple of hundred meters to a big blue drum with 'Do not go further' at 12m. The Tearoom site was great for the event as the divesite is sheltered and shallow, and there was food and drink/warmth/toilets in the Tearoom.

Alan and I did the 02.30 to 03.00 and 04.00 to 04.30 slots on the Sunday morning. Weather had cleared up so bright moonlight and no rain. The baton changeover with the pair before and after us went like clockwork thanks to a well signposted deco station. Plenty to see on the boulders out to the 25 gallon blue drum at 12m. Poor cod, leopard gobies, several scorpionfish, lots of squatties, prawns, a big lobster, big edible crabs, velvet swiming and harbour crabs, urchins and starfish. Lots of chitons on the rocks. We didn't see the conger. Viz was fine and temp 13 degrees.

A big thank you to the Tearoom for staying open and to Atlantic Divers for a superbly organised event .

Same Charity Drive again next year, James?

By the way, if you're wondering about 'Drive' - that was the misspelling on the commemorative log book stamp for the event
