Stoney, 23rd Oct/06

Well, another good couple of dives.

The weather started off a bit on the cool side but soon warmed up when the sun came out. We arrived at 9.30 after a 2.30 hour drive, cars were backed up the the road signing forms to get in.

Had a diver finishing off his SD with rescue stuff and his first time at Stoney. Another diver had his first visit to the Box at 35m.

For those of you who know Stoney, the bus stop entry point (a platform for a striding entry, accessed by about 6 metal steps with a handrail), has now been pulled down. This makes the surface swim to the 35m box buoy a long one.

It is £15 to get in unless you have a pass (£25). This makes the day rather expensive along with the £17 each in fuel.

First dive with one club member was to 35m. We then headed in an Easterly direction to the wall up to 20 metres. We bumbled around this area for a bit then came to a roadway with timber steps leading up to the wall up to 6m. Here we had a look around a personnel carrier and thence to the submarine and rescue practice.

The second dive was with a diver finishing off his sport diver qualification. We swam underwater to the Staingarth, had a look around it and then returned to do rescue stuff.

For a third dive I was the surface cover and the two divers (now sport) had a bimble together around the 6-8 metre area.

The water was a bit chilly at 35 but was lovely and warm at 20. We did the second dive without hood or gloves. Toasty warm.

Good day was had by all
