Not long back from a fantastic week in the northern Red Sea onboard the amazing M/Y Whirlwind.
I only managed sixteen out of the possible twenty two dives but I had the best new year I have ever had!
Organised by Malin (PADI Instructor and guide) & Zoe (New PADI DM - Congratulations! & Guide).
I boarded the Whirlwind on the 30th at Sharm and was told of the plans for a new year dive on the first days briefing.
We dived at Stingray Station, Descended at 23:54 on December 31st 2006 and the dive lasted 29 minutes, surfacing in January 2007!
Here we all are posing on the divedeck just prior to getting in the water.
The dive was good fun, with us all sitting round a sandy bottom beside a large Moray eel shaking hands at midnight, flashing our torches and having a laugh! we did a nice little reef dive found a couple of Puffer fish and a lovely yellow boxfish.
After the dive we partied hard and I didnt get to bed till I had drunk a bottle of rose champagne and half a litre of Jack Daniels. (4:45am!)
I had the best new year party I have ever had and suffered badly on the 1st and 2nd!
Just like to say hi and thanks to everybody that enjoyed that dive.
EDIT: Removed the embedded photo URL as flickr acting up, pointed the url to my travel dive image instead.

Jim.
I am lucky I managed sixteen!
Posted a more complete trip report on my blog: Under Pressure » Blog Archive » Northern Red Sea Wrecks & Reefs - M/Y Whilrwind Dec 2006/Jan 2007
I have still to write up the reason I missed so many dives but you can be sure it involves a hangover from hell!
At one point I had given up diving for ever, it was only due to the fantastic crew & guides of the Whirlwind that I got back in the water.
I even came back from the holiday more comfortable in the water than I have been for a while.
Just read the blog, they are very, very good quality piccys matedid'nt think you were taking a camera ?, which camera did you use for them,
They are really rather good, you've no idea how depressing it is, to have to congratulate you on your piccy skills, rather than slaughter them, which i would have enjoyed much, much more !!!!!!!
I might have known that you'd be a star behind the camera, cos let's face it, you were never going to be one in front of it !!!!!!!!:

Glad you had a good trip Davie, and nice photos too on your blog. I thought you meant you were diving at midnight in Scotland which is why I said you were mad. I see you took the soft Jessie option diving at midnight in the Red Sea!!!!![]()

What no Rosalie Moller on your list of dives????![]()
I was a fellow New Years diver on Typhoon and can vouch that Dave was partying hard when we moored up close by on several occasions...we on the other hand were drinking tea and coffee
Nice to meet you Dave!!

Diving with dolphins is like dancing with angels, but being in the water with a GALAPAGOS whaleshark is like meeting god
Hi Kathy! It was nice to meet you too :-) (and Scuba Dog?)Originally Posted by SCUBA Chick
Afraid I did party that bit too hard and was so Ill I couldnt muster up the courage to dive the Rosie, that is my only regret of the holiday.
However the Rosie will be in the same place next time I go back to the Red Sea.
Iv'e also heard the other side of this that Jack Daniels is always in the bottle and its not often I get to dive the Rosie. Yes I missed a stonking few dives but oh what a new year and everything worked out brilliantly in the end!
