January 29th dover Hms Flirt, dive report

Well what I expected to be a good day actually turned out to be a great day which I was very happy about, left home maybe 8:30 loads traffic across the bridge so when it opened up I put my foot down and 3 quarters of the way down to Dover I ended up getting tugged by the police so I pulled over… asked how fast I was going but I said ‘sorry I was doing 80’ but he replied “no you where doing considerably a lot more but your lucky I’m going to let you off as I am not a traffic officer” so got my slap on the wrist which I seriously needed more than a shit load of points but wow my lucky day he seemed to be a nice bloke, anyways carried on driving to Dover, arrived with Dave barber and only sandy there, the others gradually turned up, couldn’t imagine splitting the boat three ways!. Final turn out was 7 divers including me plus 1 other diver couldn’t make it which would of made it 8 so turned out to cost about £35 each.

Arrive at dive site viz must have been 4 metres or more, the water looked quality…. nice an blue, slack was on so I kitted up an jumped in first. I headed straight down the line an tied in the sacrificial, was looking to dive the stern so headed left and after about 5mins found an end couldn’t fully agree with myself what end it was so headed in the opposite direction and after about 8min passing loads of shell casings I found the bow and a massive anchor sitting in the sand and big sort of bridge/deck area exactly same as in hms flirt photograph right at the front of the ship but was totally netted up. There were plenty of big crabs everywhere but no lobby’s in site , so right I thought to myself straight back to the stern as I wanted to have a look at some bits of interest in that that area so I finally made it back there was into deco but it didn’t bother me as had plenty of air and didn’t even feel slightly cold…yet?

The Dive was over an I headed back to anchor unclipped my reel headed up with 20min deco as sitting on the line getting cold I noticed divers finishing up leaving the water but there was me freezing my nuts off hanging on the line actually not as cold as you think maybe 10 ??, Nigel was the last out just after me, got out had nice cup tea everyone agreed on a great dive Dave had hot sausage rolls ready also, great viz and plenty to see, I want to do it one more time so that I’m satisfied to leave it to rest…………….

28% mix - 53 dive time- 40 max


Dave is free this Wednesday got quite a few ppl that are up for diving this again but is too so soon, I doubt I can fill it up, but will give it ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice report Dan the Man...I wish I could have been there and had the dive.

I am there Friday though.......and next time I am going to tell the copper to not let you off. If it had been me I would have nailed your ass!!!!

Come on jay you wouldnt nick a fellow diver thats just wrong i was trying to catch the tide not joy riding or anything, if you did nick me i would make every dive you go one a livin nightmare!!! anyways wednesday 31st ask keith aswell,i know its short notice,

I'll think about it. I am a bit broke until Friday when I get paid. Put Wednesday off until next week and you are on!! I may get my buddy to come as well, so we might have more numbers.

Another great trip out of Dover. Really enjoyed the dive. Good Viz, good light levels. and flat seas. couldnt ask for more. Well maybe a dive buddy.

Yes Im thinking the same. But diving 3 days out of seven. This is madness
