Nice one.
Reminds me of the very first open water diving when I trained with the Uni BSAC branch back in January 1990.

I was priveliged (?) to be able to dive in the Albert dock itself, as my buddy was licenced to dive in there to conduct his research experiments.

He had floating rafts dangling ropes that had been seeded with tunicates and mussells to filter the water.

The vis nearer to these was significantly clearer!

I distinctly remember the following:

not much life to see

clearly defined horizontal layers of suspended silt within the water

touching the bottom and seeing my hand easily disappear through the sand-coloured surface straight into a pitch black sludge (bouyancy improved quickly after that one!)

swimming underneath Fred's weather map

the snow and ice on the mooring platform we entered from

how I slept for so long after the 1 hour dive (we tend to forget how tiring diving is for new divers)

When we are going again I'll check to see if they allow guest divers, and in addition to the stuff in my OP and Pauls musselled cones guns and knives have been found

You need to ring the harbourmaster and He'll send you the forms and licence requirements, pretty much what I said earlier. BSAC do a generic risk assessment for diving there you just need to fill in what could apply to you. I particularly like the ''action for missiles being thrown on divers while underwater'' let me know when you get the application and I'll give you some pointers if required.

Safe diving,
Steve

EDIT : the pointy things are traffic cones mate
Cheers for that.
Any chance of the phone number...?
Ta.

That must be pure quality, I still have memories of Fred dancing around on his map, and last tme I was there about 3 years ago it was still there, but a bit grim looking.

yeah, it was surreal, seeing the lattice-work of cables holding it all together and the floatation cells.

Unfortunately, it was a Saturday morning and no filming.

Even worse, I forgot the wire cutters so couldn't give Ireland their freedom from close proximity to UK shores...and thereby laying a booby trap for Fred's risky leap across the mini Irish Sea!
