| Furnace Quarry, Loch Fyne Dive 1 yesterday was on the wreck of the B200 just off the pier at Furnace. Depth 43m. The wreck is now pretty badly broken up. The wheelhouse is gone and the starboard side has collapsed. Won't be long till this is totally destroyed. Vis was about 7m. On the swim back up the slope caught site of a dogfish that had been hooked by a fisherman whose line had got snagged then snapped, the poor thing had given up trying to free itself, a quick cut of the line and removal of the hook seen it on it's way.
Dive 2 (the Dogfish dive) started from the opposite side of the quay. From the start all we saw were dogfish, dozens of them. I counted 44 before getting bored and giving up. Must be mating season. Swam round the quay, stopping to cut free and untangle an edible crab, snagged in fishing line (fekin anglers), saw him on his merry way (after he'd tried to remove a few of my digits), roung the quay and out at the pier. The outside face of the quay has some huge boulders, some big squat lobbies and gets very deep (at least 60m)very quickly. Freezing our butts off during deco, all except my hands (thanks to Mr Si-Tech and his marvelous fleece lined drygloves).
A good days diving albeit the weather was crap, very wet. |
