Good Effort

I've got to post a reply of admiration for those on this trip, with conditions like that you are truly in the hands of the Gods. One of the great things about SOM is that it is so sheltered, and it is a favourite YD haunt with several trips a year taking place there, so to get hit like this is just sheer bad luck.

I hope everyone made it what they could under the circumstances, and hope Alan has not has his trust in our motley crew dashed against the rocks like his poor boat nearly was!

So all that remains to say is: glad everyones OK, and Chris, sorry a to hear about the jumping off a perfectly good boat into freezing water with your zip open bit, "BUT QUITE FRANKLY, IF YOU WERE A BETTER BLOODY DIVER................"

James

It was a good but slightly truncated weekend for me and Dougie.

Good dives on Friday (Pelican and a nice drifty wall dive) was followed by the Hispania and another drift on the saturday.

Me and Dougie left on Saturday after diving to head back to Edinburgh so we could go and see the Scottish League Cup Final. (Which the mighty Hibernian beat Kilmarnock 5-1)

From what Mark has posted this looks like a not bad decision.

The weather on Friday was passable - coming back on the saturday was lumpy to say the least.

Good to have Alan at the helm rather than Mick :-)

Poor old chris dundee did jump in without doing up his suit and boy did he look cold.

Still a good weekend all in all. Hope everyone can get back home safely and without too much road hassle.

This was my first trip to Mull and the diving on Saturday was good (specially the Hispania), but the second dive was only OK. However, yesterday's diving was a lot more tasking, not only because of the C**P weather and choppy seas, but because of the cold halestones pelting at us whilst we were waiting to get into the water (seemed like ages and being sandblasted)!!

The first attempted dive was a disaster Simon K joined Chris Dundee with the zippy situation and was not pleasant. We jumped in as a 4 some and had to can the dive due to the swell and current sweeping us off course. Oh, and Colin Marriott forgetting his weight belt (Numpty!).
Still, we were swiftly back onboard and then back in the sea and had a pleasant bimble.
Weather conditions didn't really improve and the second drift dive was missed by me an Col and we seemed to have stayed at 4.5m forever before deciding to get back on board.

Apart from the weather and lack of really good diving (comapred to other people's visits no doubt), the crack with the YD'ers as usual was great and the Soup 'n' Sarnie lunches were first class.

Hope everyone gets back safely and see some of you again.

Thanks for your efforts Dougie......Graham

Thanks to Dougie for organising it, even if he was absent for most of the trip!

Q. Why did the razorbill raise her bill?

Sound like I missed the worst of the weather bailing out on Saturday evening, definitely pre-planned and didn't have advance warning honest.

Hope all got home safely, very wet and miserab;le on our drive home.

Had heard of a georgie falling out of a top bunk on a previous trip, but can't shed any light on this ones culprit.

Super Hibees, definitely worth cutting trip short.

Dougie

top time!!!

I can’t believe all this talk of bad weather and going home early!

You notice all the people left on the trip were the hard northerners!
Come Monday dinner it was blue sky’s and sunny!
Even if the tide was out and we had to get ferried in by a dingy!

Allan and David, the skippers, as ever, chose the best sites to dive for the conditions
Which were top dives and those who did them enjoyed them whole heartedly
An excellent combination of wrecks, walls, scenic and drifts (even if only at 5m!)

I know that I and several others had a top 4 days, YES! 4 DAYS! Of quality diving
Even if it did snow!

But its bloody march, so what do you expect!

Not forgetting the post dive meal, drinks and, most importantly, the banter!
My sides still ache from all the laughing!!

But I bet Mick’s knees hurt more! (But that’s another story for another dive trip!)

Unfortunately I don’t have my rubber suit anymore; I had to sell it on eBay to a needier candidate!
I have an otter Britannic, but it’s still black! Just not quite the same texture!

Can’t wait till the next trip, especially the one to Skye!

In-between then I’ll be organising a few trips to St Abbs, so watch this space!

TTFN

Phil

Smile Brrrrrr..

Well,

It was bloody cold!
Hailstones blasting us to hell on Monday.. But the sky was blue in between and we probably had the best weather of the weekend.

Hmmm, about the zip incident! We rushed to get in the water after trying to stay warm in the cabin. I was with Geordie Mick and Balders. They jumped in before me and as soon as I hit the water I was stabbed in the spine by the the devils icicles! My zip was completely open adn my suit started to fill with icy water. I signalled (shouted) to Mick and Ian for help, I was still sorting nout my weight for the new wing set up and was definately overweighted. The wing was fully inflated but I still couldnt stay on the surface. Mick and Ian got to me and kept me afloat until the boat swung round to pick me up.

You should try climbing the ladder with a suit full of icy briny and a twinset!

I will not do that again. I can laugh about it now, especially when Dougie lent me his spare dry trousers and Gav pointed out that we could fit two of me in them.

On a serious note, it could have been a very different story if my buddies hadnt been close by.

Simon K then tried to copy me on the Sunday, but only left his suit a tad open, scaredy cat!

brrrrrrr....

Chris
