| UK type liveaboard boats can be squalid, smelly, noisy uncomfortable places to spend a full week. Loud sounds [and the rest] can, and often do, erupt from every possible orifice known to human kind, from others of course, at the most inconvenient times, ie when you are trying to sleep. Inconsiderate oafs stumbling into their bunks very late after a splendid night on the piss are a further hazard. Close friends have often been close to a sudden end when their snoring reaches a hideous crescendo------for the fifth time, and the rest of the people on board within hearing range would have applauded and readily adopt an 'I am Spartacus' solidarity during police questioning. Disturbed nights, cramped uncomfortable conditions, quues for loos, which often double as the shower-------are only made tolerable at best if you get on well with your shipmates. If you don't----------well it can be a nightmare. No joking here Kath, if you are going again, go with a group of close friends, [ at the start of the trip anyway!!]or stay in a B+B. In Scapa Flow, you can easily do the popular dives as a dayboat in relative comfort. Good on you for being up for a return trip :-) Cheers, Malcolm. | I'm sure the recommended response to such wall kicking is to either kick the snorer or kick the wall back and shout "shut the f*ck up"? Having said that I can't stand snoring which is why I sleep on the sofa a lot to get away from my snoring in bed. Lastly, couldn't you have moved to one of the other rooms? Anyway, sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it. The thing that frightened me when I went to Scapa were the pissed up locals!

| Frankley I think you both over reacted big time. Live-aboards are like camping, you take the rough with the smooth. Diving with a group of strangers is a similar thing. If you are a sensative type then chose a group you feel comfortable with, or don't do it. ATB Mark Chase

| Sorry to hear about your problems Kath, the first thing I pack for a dive trip are foam ear plugs for myself and anyone else that needs them. Better luck next time. Safe diving, Steve

| Thanks for sharing Kath. Sorry to hear that you've had a bad experience this time. Sounds like X was a bit of an arse... Note to self, bring a bag of ear plugs so people don't want to chuck me overboard for my snoring! ![]()

That said, I wouldn't have left Scapa, but I would have accepted one of the other spaces that were for them on other boats.
