Popped in alone for thre first time ever for about 40mins before giving the apprentice a play.Like I said before I kept him close ,using the occy and giving him the chance to experience diving first hand so to speak.c BTW he thought it amazing and is dying to give it a real go

Well if you believe you have the experience and knowledge to deal with any and all of his issues in that environment, and that you thought through all the angles to make sure that your apprentice would be safe, who am I to argue. The problem comes when the unexpected happens and you have a mask off, reg out diver holding their breath and shooting for the surface pushing off the bottom with all their might and dragging you with them. Their leg power way overcomes any weight you might have given them and you have no chance of stopping them. 4m to the surface would only be a 40% expansion of their lungs so 6 litres tries to become 8.4 litres. Makes a nice froathy, red mess on the surface - but like you said you thought it was fine.

standpoint. It all comes down to how much you are willing to pay if it went wrong. Could be talking a lot of zero's here or even worse. No good saying it wouldnt happen to me, cause it has happened to somebody and today may/may not be your lucky day. Personal choice. |

You'd probably be quite good at it if you enjoyed looking after him, and liked the thrill of seeing someone love learning how to dive. But in answer to your question I think it would be fine most of the time, it's what to do if things go wrong that you really have to worry about.
