returned today from sal after 2 weeks, garoupa hotel very good with exalante staff, will go again. did 15 dives with scuba carib on the beach at the hotel. guides Barbara and Edwardo are very experianced and friendly. they run dives from 8.30 in the morning (2 dives) and a single dive at 1.30, on all the dives the sea was rough with waves between 18" to 3foot on or near the surface you will be thrown around a little. while diving look outside of the dive area you will see the ocasional turtle and small shark staying out of your way, otherwise fish everyware. now is the time to go as the sites are being overfished and heavily dived, if you look in the pirate shop in the hotel you will see a very old anchor approx 300 plus years old along with the coral it was embeaded in that wason the sea bed near the hotel 2 years ago (info from hotel manager). the scuba carib equipment is well looked after and maintained, there dives are expensive, 400euros for 15 dives plus equipment hire and deposit. hope this is of some help

if you booked with thompson the visa is included in the price but you need to go on the thompsons web site and fill in the details at least 6 weeks before. if you are with another company you can get the visa at the airport in sal but you will have a long wait and will cost 25 euros. only 5kilos extra allowance for dive equipment on production of diving qualifications. on return they are super critical of wieght and tried to charge 60euro for being just over half a kilo over wieght. regards martinfb

Cape Verde Don't bother went in March 06 better diving in Lanzarote! But the dive centre, Scuba Caribe were very good ran By Juan Blanco in the Riu Garopa/Funana .It's not very established yet on the Island ,every where there is building plots, very basic not developed yet,Diving was Ok not brilliant. It takes 6 hours and you can can diverted to Banjul in Africa and can take 9 hours. Go to Red Sea pound for pound it's unbeatable. Tez
