wreck name

To be honest the dive guide, obviously an Arabic speaker, did tell us on the briefing that El Mina meant 'the port' which did then seem an odd name for a warship.

HMS Portsmouth is a reasonable name for a ship but not HMS The Port.

You see, El Mina (the port) and El Menya are pronounced almost the same in some Egyptian dialects. Plus there are the foreigners who simply murder the language So sooner or later, the common name of "the Port Wreck" meaning: The wreck which lays in the port, was to sooner or later catch on.

We, concerned folk, have spent hard cash on campaignes in attempts to resurect the proper name. So every time I here mention of it, I put my 2p in and make the short correction.

I wish dive masters would take notice of this important fact, she was a proud ship and fought an angry battle that led to her epic demise.
The wreckages of 2 Israeili planes she shot down lie nearby....

Good to hear you enjoyed Hurghada. It is a great little dive destination
I posted this about her a few years ago, there is no mention of her shooting down anything and I have never heard of any jets close by. I'd be interested to know where they are. Or are they just a rumour?

I've dived this wreck more times than I can remember, I was on her again today. So far as wrecks go this is a nice little one.

Time to dive.

There is mention of the Israeli Jets on the Israeli Airforce home page in a section that has blow to blow details of several deadly encounters.

South Eastish there is a lighthouse nearby the wreck. There is one of the planes there. Not really much of a "wreck" wreck, just some bits of twisted metal mostrly up on the reef. The other is at Fanadir.

Is this RE Simon by any chance?
