| Dorothea Rebreather soup Well we've been back to today and it was like Rebreather soup Ive never seen so many of the little yellow turtles about it must have been the sun that awoke them. The one thing that amused me was out of about 20 there was one guy who sung there praises until getting out about 10 Min's after they had passed me & Badknees in a cloud of silt following 2 of his cells showing a catastrophic failure Thank god for OC we did concider diving little dotty at some time untill having a look and finding that unless you parachute into the quarry there is now way in which is a shame as it looks even more spectacular than Dorothea looking forward to my next trip there even though its 200 mile round trip with no fascilities it beats Crapernray

Hmm..... we had about 1/2 hour looking around it and all we could see were shear walls although the natural verdigi on the slate was quite beautifull with the sun shine.... and where the local have painted there names all the way from top to bottom. not to self take sack for slate chippings i dont think they will mis a few bags

| Which quarry are you looking at? The one at the back of the pump house has really easy access down to it. I dived it years ago and it has a path down to some rotten wooden steps. Pretty dull dive, flat bottom at about 30m which didn't look much like changing. I plumbed it with a gauge tied on a reel in various places and it was pretty steady 30m all over. If you mean the other one near the Tal-y-Sarn track then there doesn't appear to be an easy way in. The old tale was that this one was chemically contaminated, don't know if it's true, the access put me off more. I abseiled into the pumping shaft and dived there on a pair of 3's in 1999 if you're looking for some "vertical" access

| Can anybody point out where this easy access is? I'm talking about the pumphouse quarry the one with the Island. I have heard rumers of lots of fish different species of fish being cought by local anglers. This is why I want to dive it. I had a walk around just after new year and could not find a feasible way in that would not involve SRT/a wire ladder to a tree to get back out Northern/pump house end. It looks just about possible to get in and out at the southern end. There is a track and turning area close to the south end. I have not investigated if there is indeed accessa along the track. The problem is that the "Bridge" leading from the turning area to the quarry ege is so over grown that one would need a machte and quite a bit of time to get through, or take a D-tour through the bushes that I would not fancy in dive kit. The west side appeard to be all high vertical walls. The east side is a posibillity but from what I have seen I don't fancy stubling down the steep potentially unstable slope of sharp waste slate not to mention the gorse and brambles and I'm not easily put of by a bit of climbing/balancing. I was thinking investigate possible enty sites from the water side but don't necessarily fancy swimming it at this time of year. Anybody got small inflateble dinghy (spare 150lbs wing For a snorkel i won't even have to wait until I can clear my ears again. But I fancy sombody to be there just in case it proofs more tricky to get back out than it looks. |
