| Our first dive in Dublin Bay So being a bit fed up lately (work related or lack of) I was going diving this weekend , come hell or high water. We have being diving off Donagal most weekends this year so I fanced a bit of a change. So a few PMs later we are invited ( or did I impose myself ) down to dive a off shore wreck. So we set off to Micks on Sat for a night out and a dive on Sunday afternoon. We went to Mick local for a cpl of pints of the best black stuff I have had in ages, and a steak to die for plus great company ( Micks better half lol). So Sunday morning we are treated to one hell of a breakfast, hate to say it Mick cooks a mean breakfast. We followed Mick to Dun Laoghaire The sea was as flat as it gets, the sun was out, the perfect day We flew out in record speed, and waited for slack. Mick said, ''in 5 mins the pellet will come up'' and true to form it did, looked more like 2 ball cocks to me though. We tied a boey on and started to kit up. Then out of the very bright sun shine a very thick blanket of fog came in. I was expecting Peter Cushing to appear on the Mari Celest, it was that spooky. So Mick said we will give it half an hour and see if it lifts. Out comes the tea coffee & the biggest box of assorted choccy biks I have ever seen Now I always worry about a dive for some reason, you think I would have got over it by now I ask about what happens if the ferry goes by, So Eddy pipes up ''You will be grand, it turns into a whirlpool for a few mins and the viz go to shit '' Yes thanks Eddy thinks I In the mean time we hear a fog horn, getting closer & closer, so Mick Calls it and we head back inshore, glad he was there as the others would have gone for it, me included. Good call Mick. So I am a bit dissapointed ,as I was well up for it now We head for another wreck further inland and decide on the Guide me II Irish Wrecks On-Line - Guide Me II SS (No. 514a) So we kit up and down the shot we go. I struggle to equlize as usual and it takes me 5 mins to get to the bottom, and what a surprise, a lovely little wreck covered in life, and the most fish I have seen on a wreck this side of the equator. And the viz was 10-12m I was told you only got 3m at best in Dublin Bay, maybe they are trying to keep the place to them selfs, well I will be back the first chance I get. So thanks again Mick.
