Pembroke - Nice day, crap vis...

Not really a report but had to write something...

Weather was superb - temperature in the mid 20s, not a breath of wind. Blue skies with just some high cloud and the sea almost mirror like calm. Add that to neap(ish) tides and 2 weeks of calm weather we had high hopes for this.

It was not to be though.

Arriving at the Lucy wreck the vis was about 1m going down the line until hitting 20m then went completely black. With my D8 on full power the beam literally stopped dead after 50cm or so. The first 2 down aborted at 31m without getting to the wreck. We got to the wreck (37m to deck), spent 4 mins there in a big current and that low vis and total darkness before aborting. Disappointing.

Checked out the rest of Skomer and the sea looked like soup (did see either dolphins or porpoise from the boat though) so moved to Skokholm. The people put in there had 1-2m vis maximum, often less. Again water looked like soup.

More disheartened we then went back into Milford Haven to dive the Thor. Vis there was 2m in places - the best we'd had anywhere but still fairly poor. Loads of scallops, crab and lobster on it though along with shoals of fish (i assume pollack (sp?) ?).

The plankton bloom is starting there as well. 2 weeks running now decent weather but god-awful vis in the sea which is a pity.

Only memorable moment of the day was a radio call from a boat that found a dog trying to swim through jack sound, recovered it on board and then asking the coast what to do with it.

Im sporting another comedy sunburn after the trip but saw just about nothing.
