Zenobia with Divetek Cyprus

Hi all
Went away for a week with wife and family so had only had a pass for one day diving so i arranged it with Dive-Tek Cyprus: Technical Diving, Trimix, Rebreather, Megalodon
We were going to do it on the Tuesday so i was picked up on the Monday to get gear together and meet the lads.It was there i met Mike from diversdown in Swanage
After checking all the gear and gasses i would need Rob dropped me back to the hotel and said hed meet me early the following morning
So Tuesday came and off we went,Went to the shop and got all the kit and met some pf the slovakian contingent
Rob asked me what did i want to do and i said the cooks tour i.e. everything worth seeing
So he outlined what we were gonna do with depths and runtimes etc.
We waited till after the others on singles had gone in and got ready and splashed in
Theres a trapeze on the Zenobia you can clip you stages to at 18 mts so we clipped off and went on our dive.We went up the the prop and the bridge and had a look at some of the lorries
Its a really great wreck you could spend a fortnight just doing the wreck there are so many things to see and do in it
After we got out there was a buffet bbq on the boat which went down nice.We went back to the shop and washed down our gear and i said my goodbye to Mike who was going back the following day.
After a little gentle persuasion i got another pass to dive on the Friday.I let the lads know and arranged the same mixes that I'd need.It turned out i was the only one going out with them that day so Pete was just diving for pleasure that day which was nice.
There were a few lads on the boat telling Paddy jokes tring to outdo one another Rob waslooking at me but i said nothing. It turns out then that when they start kitting up that one of them forgot his wetsuit .Oh how we laughed!!I said 'You can say the irish are thick but we all have our own gear' one of his mates asked did anyone have a spare wetsuit i said i did but it was an irish suit so it wouldnt be clever enough for the lads. That didnt go down too well but i thought it was great fun laughing at them
We agreed that we would have a look inside the wreck but not go too far inside as I didnt have the training for it.We went to the middle hold first and even though there was plenty of light and you can get out through the middle of it, it was a spooky experience looking at the trucks just there. All our trim was grand (by that i mean mine) but the bubbles from our exhaust was causing the rust flakes to start making the vis get worse so we got out and went through the bridge and went into the top hold.Theres only the one entrance/exit on this hold so you have to be careful with all your gear cos you can get yourself into trouble if youre all over the place, even though its lined and someone has put a bottle there with an 'exit' sign on it pointing upwards i can see how you could be in a life or death situation.
We finished our dive and picked up the stages and did our deco.
I said to myself if the fellas buddy who forgot his suit was still there id loan him mine
It turns out they hadnt gone back in yet so he was happy to get a loan of my suit and do one dive on the wreck
Im due to go back there in July for a fortnight so i plan on going back with the same outfit.
Theyre nice lads very professional and great setup

Nice report Dave, brings back memories, all good, from this time last year! It really is a wreck you could spend a whole holiday diving. Well I could

Nice 1!

I dive the Zen last August when my wife and I were on a family holiday in Cyprus. I dived with Cydive out of Paphos and secondly Dive Point also from Paphos. The cydive experience was a typical tourist trip, professional enough but just wanted your money and do the typical tourist dives. I next went with Dive Point who were much more friendly, personal and subject to your experience would take you to the engine room as I did. I had two great dives with Dive Point with an instructor/guide called Flemming who knew the Zen well. The first dive we went into the engine room - yes its dark but clear, you have to be careful not to kick up the silt as you can get zero viz! BBQ lunch afterwards on the same boat as Dave, and then into the second cargo hold for the second dive - an excellent day with the added bonus of going to the engine room with a guide on a one to one basis. if you're ever in Paphos and want to do the Zen check out Dive Point.

Phil
