| Discover DIR Scotland May 11th 2008 As I was as late arrival I really didn't get much benefit from the weekend that Iain and John had arranged however it was good to meet up again with Iain and nice to Meet John (although I am sure I met him for a moment or two at LiDS). Anyway without further ado my blogs are finally up to date.... Under Pressure » Blog Archive » GUE / DIR Scotland Day May 11th 2008 Davie

Good questions, Self imposed Limitation: Yes, I do dive a twinset for my own diving and therefore not being able to shutdown is a critical limiting factor. Essentially I am diving a single 24, therefore I will limit myself to any diving possible on a single cylinder, i.e no deco and shallower than 20 metres (that's what I consider practical for single cylinder diving and I know others have different opinions, this is not an agency or training limit, its my own limit) GUE Model: Reading the report you will have noticed I dived on EAN28, this is not an approved GUE breathing gas therefore that dive wasn't a DIR / GUE Dive however I did try to implement as many of the GUE protocols as I could. Its a nightmare trying to get Nitrox fills around Glasgow. I also cannot dive every dive on the GUE model due to many reasons including but not limited to: Not enough GUE trained Buddies in my area I Still have many friends who are not GUE trained however are divers (and actually that's another interesting point, I seem to have alienated myself from some of them just by attempting to go down the GUE route, Ive had a few strange comments from them recently, some in jest and others I am just not so sure) therefore I'd like to keep diving with my mates. I have recently become a PADI OWSI (see separate reports) and I really want to help non divers become divers so in these cases yet again I will not be able to implement the GUE model. I See GUE to me as a tool set to use when its appropriate and at this level I don't see any issues with that mindset. I do however see issues compromisingly the holistic approach when and if I every manage a tech pass and get to do CAVE1 (which is my goal, after all its all the cave reports written up here that even brought GUE to my attention) So in Summary Use as a toolset just now with my own and practical limitations however when approaching challenges utilise the full "model"Davie
